bone marrow and blood drive this saturday!

BONE MARROW AND BLOOD DRIVE
FEBRUARY 4, 2017
Many of you may remember the bone marrow drive we hosted in honor of Fr. Michael Christiana, S.J. after he was diagnosed with leukemia and received a life saving bone marrow transplant, thanks to his sister.
Due to the fact that 70% of patients do not have a matching donor in their family, Brebeuf Jesuit is proud to once again partner with Be The Match for a bone marrow registry drive!
During the drive in honor of Fr. Michael, Mr. Todd Howard signed up for the registry and was chosen as a match for a patient in need.  He donated stem cells in early January and saved a life.
We hope that you will be inspired by Mr. Howard and the many others who joined him in signing up for the registry!  It’s easy to do and only takes about 5 minutes.  Just complete a simple form and swab your cheeks.  When you join the Be The Match Registry, you become part of every patient’s search for a donor.
Brebeuf is also taking this opportunity to partner again with the Indiana Blood Center to host a blood drive on February 4!

Loves About Brebeuf
I think one of the things that I love the most about Brebeuf are the senior privileges. They grant me the ability to go to Starbucks to study every morning, which is a luxury I wouldn’t get many other places. I also really love the teachers at Brebeuf. There are so many amazing teachers that become your friends, which is really cool to see.
Favorite Class
I’m a huge nerd and I have way too many classes that I’ve loved at Brebeuf, but if I had to pick just one, it would have to be either Honors Biotechnology with Ms. Annee or AP Physics with Mr. Rott. I’ve learned so much in both of these classes and have had so much fun while doing so.
Future Plans
I am unsure of where I want to attend college and have applied to many schools, but I hope to potentially go to Georgetown University or Cornell University to study Neuroscience, and either become a doctor or veterinarian.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Student Council
Varsity Cheerleading
Ignatian Scholars
Mentors Program
National Honor Society
Spirit Committee
Admissions and Presidential Ambassador
Random Fact
I had a cake decorating business when I was younger called GracieCakes.
What has been your favorite Brebeuf experience or most memorable moment so far?
I think that my favorite Brebeuf experience has either been leading Kairos or the EKS games. Kairos was such an amazing and fulfilling experience that every Brebeuf student should take advantage of while they are here. And, leading it gave me a whole new perspective on the people in my life that I hadn’t experienced before. Also, I love the EKS games because it is such a fun day and it is so cool to see Brebeuf athletes coming together for an amazing cause.
Are you going to be watching the Super Bowl?  Any thoughts on the game?
My family watches the Super Bowl together every year because it always falls on my dad’s birthday weekend. However, I usually enjoy the commercials and halftime more than the game. We’ll be getting some Buffalo Wild Wings and hanging out as a family!

Freshman Service Days for the Spring Semester

We will begin accepting permission forms for the Class of 2020 Freshman Service Days next week!  Freshman Service Days are completely voluntary and do not count towards the Community Service credit at Brebeuf.  They are offered each year to the incoming freshmen to help introduce them to the part of Brebeuf Jesuit's mission of being men and women for others, and it is our hope that it will start them on a path of service beginning before and going far beyond the hours which they are required to complete during their junior and senior years.  This is also a great opportunity for freshmen to get to know more of their classmates outside of the classroom.
Freshmen can participate in one or all of the Freshman Service Days as space allows.  Class absences will be excused as long as permission slips are turned in one week prior to the trip.
Sign up on our signupgenius.com page by clicking here.
To download the permission slip, please click here.
If you have any questions, please contact Nick Klingler at nklingler@brebeuf.org, or 317.524.7005.
