When do you listen to Classical KC the most?
I listen to Classical KC frequently: in my kitchen on the portable radio, in the living room through a good amplifier and high quality JBL speakers (still the radio, but sound is better), whenever working at my computer, and when driving in my car on the car radio.
Favorite composer:
J.S. Bach. I was drawn to his organ music when I was in high school because of the playing of Art Crouthamel, our church organist. When I heard him play Bach's setting of the chorale we translate as "O Sacred Head, Now Wounded," I thought to myself, "I want to be able to play that piece!"
What excites you about classical music?
Its complexity. As a listener, as a performer, and as a teacher, it always stimulates my imagination and evokes an emotional response. What is the composer saying in the music? How is it constructed? How does it take advantage of the particular instrumental timbres being used? There is never a dull moment unless the composer wants a calming effect.
Why are you a member of Classical KC?
I've been since it was first announced, because I cannot thrive without classical music. I love being able to tune in at all times of the day or night to the clear signal from Classical KC. It is fun to hear all the voices of musicians who give personal testimonies — so much better than ads for merchandise!
