From the Chair
Greetings from EEES. We have some exciting stories to share with you in this edition of the newsletter. The success of our faculty continues to get noticed. Tanju Karanfil was honored by the Turkish government for his contributions to engineering science. Brian Powell won the most prestigious research award given by the college. Ron Falta’s leading-edge research on groundwater modeling continued to draw significant funding. Tim DeVol was appointed to one of the Environmental Protection Agency’s science advisory boards. And David Ladner was featured in a radio interview on the exciting activities sponsored by Clemson’s Industrial Assessment Center. EEES students are also enjoying success, including awards received by graduate students Jess Deaver and Paige Taber, plus recognition received by several of our Geology undergraduate students.
As I mentioned in the last newsletter, we have two searches underway to fill tenure track faculty positions at the assistant professor level - one in Earth Sciences, the other in Biosystems Engineering. We are also seeking to hire a new lecturer who will teach courses in Geology as well as Environmental Science and Policy. By the next newsletter, I hope to report on our newest colleagues.
Spring is on the way. All around us the vegetation is starting to bud. Spring also seems to be the time for pledge drives. If you have never donated to EEES, or if it’s been a while, please consider giving. There is a secure link on our website. Any amount helps. From scholarships to fellowships, your support helps us to attract top students at all levels. Thanks for your support.
Sincerely,
David Freedman, Chair
