| You’re Invited to Our Fall Fundraiser and Auction
We are excited to share that our Fall Fundraiser and Auction is just a couple weeks away and hope to see you there! The event is on Thursday, October 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. The evening will include h’ordeuvres, wine, beer and desserts, along with an awards ceremony and auction.
During the event, the Museum of disABILITY History will present its inaugural Chris Burke Award for Excellence in Disability Advocacy to its honoree. Chris Burke, an actor with Down syndrome, played Corky on the television show, Life Goes On. He has earned numerous awards and is a Goodwill Ambassador for the National Down Syndrome Society. The annual fundraiser will benefit our educational programming.
Tickets costs $25 each or two for $40. Additional options include:

- Chris Burke Award Supporter $100: Includes two tickets and recognition at the event
The auction features four Walt Disney World One-Day Park Hopper Tickets and numerous local attractions. | New Book Focuses on First School for Children with Intellectual Disabilities in U.S.
Diana Katovitch, author of Beautiful Children: The Story of the Elm Hill School and Home for Feebleminded Children and Youth, will conduct a free presentation on Wednesday, October 5, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Jacquet Education Commons, Syracuse University Huntington Hall, 804 University Avenue, Syracuse. The book is published through the Museum of disABILITY History and the presentation is part of our Dialogues on disABILITY Speaker Series.
The Elm Hill School was the first school for children with intellectual disabilities in the United States, founded in 1848 in Barre, Massachusetts. During the discussion, Katovitch will review her research, the progressive nature of early special education and the importance of disability history.

| Book Launch: J.N. Adam Memorial Hospital: Her Inside Voice
As part of our Dialogues on disABILITY Speaker Series, Char Szabo-Perricelli, photographer/artist, will present her new book, J.N. Adam Memorial Hospital: Her Inside Voice, on Friday, November 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. The free event will include a book signing and question and answer session.
The book, which features the photography and writing of Char Szabo-Perricelli, is the result of a multi-year photo documentation project. It also includes historical support from the Museum of disABILITY History as part of our premier publications in the Abandoned History Series. From what was once a majestic medical facility to the ruins it is becoming today, this book will take you back to the grand beginning and leave you with a sense of loss for what is quickly becoming another casualty amongst many of our historical treasures.

| A Visit from Canadian Down Syndrome Society
We recently welcomed members of the Canadian Down Syndrome Society to our Museum of disABILITY History. They enjoyed our “In Celebration of Down Syndrome” exhibit and viewed the “Unspoken Voice” artwork exhibition, which highlights Bailey Bastine, an artist who has Down syndrome.

| Meeting Room Rentals Available
Are you looking for a new meeting venue? Plan ahead and book our meeting rooms in advance for 2017. Community organizations, businesses and networking groups are invited to rent meeting space at the Museum of disABILITY History. Located inside a two-story brick building, there are two conference rooms available for rental purposes. Ethernet availability, laptop connection capabilities and other features are available. ADA-compliant rooms are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., along with evening and Saturday hours. Organizations are welcome to bring in their own food.
