Dear Colleagues:
Kevin Saunders ’98 (Management) ’11g (School Leadership) has been appointed Interim Assistant Vice President for Information & Technology Services and Chief Information Officer, succeeding the retiring John Reina, effective July 30, 2026.
In this position, Saunders will oversee End User Services & Support, Instructional Technology, Administrative Computing, Information Security, and Telecommunications. Together, these offices serve the academic and administrative technology needs of more than 8,000 students, faculty and staff working in classrooms, labs, residential halls and offices across the campus.
Saunders is well qualified to manage this portfolio. After earning his degree from SUNY New Paltz in 1998, he was hired as a Help Desk technician in 2000 and has steadily risen through the ranks in the years since. He served most recently as Director of End User Services & Support, demonstrating exceptional leadership and communication skills and a talent for bridging differing goals and knowledge levels across campus. He has also distinguished himself as a campus citizen, including via his longstanding membership in the Faculty Senate and his contributions as an active UUP member and officer. He was recognized with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service earlier this year.
Saunders steps into a role that has been managed by John Reina for nearly a decade. Reina’s service to the campus is marked by major improvements to technology support processes, significant technology integrations including the SUNY-wide move to Brightspace, and ongoing efforts to protect campus data from ever-evolving security threats. He also led the IT teams whose tireless work and creative problem solving made it possible for the University to sustain its academic mission during the multi-year disruption of COVID-19.
Please join me in thanking both John Reina and Kevin Saunders for their outstanding service to SUNY New Paltz.
Sincerely,
Scott Cline
Vice President for Operations
