Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
This week, we will gather for our annual Faculty Convocation, and I invite you all to join in the celebration. The event will take place this Friday, September 20, 2024, at 4 p.m. in the University Center’s Event Room, with a reception to follow in Bethany Hall. It will be a special opportunity to recognize those who have earned the distinction of emeritus, merit, promotion and tenure, as well as welcome new members of our academic community.
Prior to the event, faculty, administration and staff will have the opportunity to take or update their professional headshots. The photo session will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the University Center Event Lounge on the South Orange Campus. No appointment is necessary.
I look forward to seeing you at Convocation as we come together as a community and celebrate our faculty.

| Disability Support Services Reminder
Faculty are reminded that students must request accommodation for their classes first through the Disability Support Services (DSS) office, not directly from professors. Once an accommodation is approved, the student will receive a letter from DSS outlining the approved accommodation, which they will provide to their professor. Once they provide the accommodation letter to you, you can discuss with them how to implement in your course.

Cayuse Workshop Supports Smooth Grant Submission and Approval Process |
The 2024 Petersheim Academic Exposition offered the University community both research discoveries and skills training through a series of workshops. Recorded for those who could not attend, "Cayuse Training: Building on Proposal 101" was a vital presentation for researchers. Cayuse is the tool that helps to simplify the approval process at Seton Hall and keeps track of all submitted proposals. Faculty members ready to submit a grant proposal are encouraged to first review IRB (Institutional Review Board) procedures, refer to the PI Handbook, and then be sure to use Cayuse for proposal preparation, proposal approval, and sign-off. "Stakeholders are able to quickly be informed using an abstract, and what a concept budget may be," said Norma Rubio, helping to streamline proposal submission, and facilitating stakeholder approval processes.

Research shows that student interaction with faculty is key to student success and retention. Here are some best practices (adapted from the 2023 Student Voice Survey and Utah Tech University, 2024) on how faculty can continue to positively enhance the student experience.
Tip #5: Build Classroom Rapport. Setting clear classroom expectations can help clarify needs. Ask students to be prepared for class and hold them accountable. Encourage and praise student efforts, not just achievements.
