Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week 2017 will take place from Monday, February 20, through Friday, February 24. It celebrates the important doctrines of fair use in the United States and fair dealing in Canada and other jurisdictions. While fair use and fair dealing is employed on a daily basis by students, faculty, librarians, journalists, and all users of copyrighted material, Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week is a time to promote and discuss the opportunities presented, celebrate successful stories and explain the doctrine.

IP Osgoode, the celebrated intellectual property law and technology program at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School, and the International Law Research Program (ILRP) at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) today announced a partnership to expand a student-focused innovation initiative to assist start-up companies, entrepreneurs and inventors with IP-related business issues.

Osgoode takes Second Place in 2017 International Patent Drafting Competition!

Congratulations to IP Osgoode students, Paul Blizzard, Denver Bandstra and Lawrence Yu on taking Second Place at the 2017 International Patent Drafting Competition held in Detroit Feb. 10-11!
Hosted by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Windsor Law, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the competition saw Team Osgoode make it to the final round where they tied with Saint Louis University (SLU) on final scoring.  On the sudden death round, they lost to SLU by only one point.
Competitors from 10 law schools from across the U.S. and Canada presented their patent applications in front of judges comprised of patent examiners, practitioners and several judges.
Team Osgoode was coached by Ken Bousfield and Nicholas Aitken and generously sponsored by Bereskin & Parr LLP.

The deadline to submit an entry for the 9th annual Canada’s IP Writing Challenge is Saturday July 1, 2017! The winner from each category will receive a prize of $1000 (CAD), publication on the IP Osgoode website, and consideration for publication in the Canadian Intellectual Property Review and/or the Intellectual Property Journal. Osgoode's Oxford IP Moot Team Visits the SCC

Osgoode’s Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot team recently met with Madam Justice Rosalie Abella at the Supreme Court of Canada on February 22, 2017. During the meeting, Madam Justice Abella (named Global Jurist of the Year) offered the team a once in a lifetime experience to present their oral arguments to her from the Supreme Court podium and was very generous in her comments and feedback to the team.
