Dear Cathedral Family,
“September teaches us to find the beauty in the changing seasons and the blessings in every moment.”
I came across this quote about our new month, and it struck me as just right for this moment. School is back in session, and our lives are humming with a full slate of activities, social gatherings, and to-dos. It may be tempting to just get through it all or hang in there until our next vacation. But I believe that to do so would be to miss the point. God created our world with changing seasons to keep us on our toes and to produce never-ending beauty and nature as blessings to be enjoyed rather than moments to be endured. For me personally, to have my four children successfully graduate from Cathedral High School and be on their way to independence is something I am very grateful for, even if it is still in progress. The fact that I am blessed to come up the Hill each day and pray and collaborate with my fantastic colleagues and our boisterous, brainy, and beautiful students is a real, tangible blessing.
I hope you all are proud and grateful to be a part of this ever-growing and always-changing Cathedral family. On that note, we have had, at last count, eight beautiful babies born to one of our current educators in the past year. Most recently, Monica Kathryn Taul was born on August 21st, joining our Director of Admissions Anna Taul’s family and helping to grow our Cathedral family by a very precious one! We are extra grateful for Monica and all of our new Irish babies!
It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating our 100th birthday as a school community, and this month we are celebrating our 105th! We will celebrate a very special Holy Mass at Cathedral on the 13th, our actual birthday, and Archbishop Charles Thompson will be our celebrant. Mass begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Welch Activity Center; all are welcome.
We celebrate our annual Evening of Excellence this month on the 28th. We will announce our newest inductees into our Circle of Excellence that evening. It is always an extraordinary evening, and I hope to see many of you there!
We will also honor our Holy Cross heritage by hosting a visit for Holy Cross Schools in Asia and Africa at the end of the month. We are humbly aware that we do a very good job of articulating our Holy Cross Values in our daily programming and in the heart and soul of our school community, and we look forward to sharing our good practices with our colleagues from Bangladesh, India, and Ghana.
As September begins and the heat and humidity wane, I thank you for partnering with us in this noble vocation of educating the hearts and minds of our beautifully diverse student body. We have 50 more students than we did last year at this time, and I know it is because of the remarkable experience our students have each day in our classrooms, fields, stages, and elsewhere. We joyfully welcome classroom educators Jaden Bailey, Ian Callen, Stefan Certa, Isabella Cook, Megan Gawrys, Daniel Goggans, Megan Greive, Jake Huhn, Fr. Geoffrey Mooney, C.S.C., Matt Moorman, Jodi Monroe (Counselor), Nicole Nemeth, Sarah Rashid, Br. Matt Rehagen, C.S.C., and Cindy Seley as new classroom educators on the Hill. They join a truly outstanding group of educators who are joyful, kind, collaborative, innovative, engaged, and have a true zeal for their faith and our mission, and, oh, by the way, are really good at their jobs. For this, I am sincerely grateful.
Thank you for supporting Cathedral High School and our Catholic Holy Cross mission. 105 and counting; let’s stride on!
Humbly in service,
Rob Bridges

Ignite the Irish
The Ignite the Irish Student Fundraiser is underway, and we need your help to ensure it's a success! The goal of this student fundraiser is to raise money to support our tuition assistance program and to provide support for the approved sports teams and student organizations that they love. We believe learning to give back is an important part of a young person's education, which helps establish a lifelong connection with philanthropy.
The Ignite the Irish Student Fundraiser ends September 15. Students are tasked with raising a minimum of $250 online using a personal fundraising page. Families of multiple students at Cathedral will receive a reduced goal. Find out more and contribute to a Cathedral student's fundraising efforts by visiting our website.
