Morning Masses at the cathedral next week
Morning Masses will be offered at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville while parish priests are on a diocesan retreat next week. Father Brent Shelton, pastor of St. Mary Church in Oak Ridge, will celebrate Mass on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 a.m. His Eminence, Cardinal Justin Rigali, will celebrate Masses at 6:30 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, and Thursday, Oct. 25. Please consider joining Father Shelton and Cardinal Rigali for morning Mass at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus while your parish priest is on retreat next week.
Bishop honors sacrament of marriage with Mass at Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
Bishop Richard F. Stika celebrated a Mass to honor the sacrament of marriage at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on Saturday, Oct. 13. Couples from around the diocese who attended were able to renew their marriage vows at this annual celebration organized by the Office of Marriage Preparation and Enrichment. Mobile medical clinic needs general
volunteers and nurse

The St. Mary’s Legacy Clinic, a mobile clinic that provides free medical care to uninsured patients in rural communities, is in need of general volunteers and nurses who are willing to travel to Gatlinburg (every fourth Thursday) and nurses who are willing to travel to Decatur (every first Thursday). The clinic is also in need of primary care physicians (family medicine and internal medicine) who are willing to commit to one day per month at any of its sites. If you are available to provide this valuable service on a regular basis at either of these locations and would like to volunteer, please contact Maria Zevallos at 865-212-5570. St. Bridget Parish celebrates 50th anniversary 
Bishop Stika joined Father Sam Sturm, pastor, and parishioners of St. Bridget Church in Dayton for a Jubilee Mass marking the 50th anniversary of the parish on Sunday, Oct. 14. St. Bridget parishioners Ms. Mary Travis and her sister, Ms. Regina Corvin, are relatives of the late Bishop Joseph A. Durick, who dedicated the church in 1968. Two major fundraising luncheons for Catholic Charities of East Tennessee will take place next month. Chattanooga will host the 360° of Hope Holiday Luncheon on Friday, Nov. 16, at 11:30 a.m. at The Westin in Chattanooga. Knoxville will host the 360° of Hope Holiday Luncheon on Friday, Nov. 30, at 11:30 a.m. at The Press Room in Knoxville. Bishop to celebrate White Mass for health-care professionals on Oct. 20
Bishop Stika invites parishioners and health-care professionals to join him in celebrating a diocesan White Mass for all who serve in health care on Saturday, Oct. 20, at the 5 p.m. vigil Mass at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville.  As a time-honored tradition of the Church, the White Mass represents a special opportunity to invoke the blessing of the Holy Spirit upon those serving in the health-care profession and to reflect upon the Church’s teaching not only upon the healing mission of those in the health-care profession, but also upon the salvific meaning of human suffering in light of Christ’s redemptive suffering.
Pastoral Juvenil office featured in Catholic Extension video 
Catholic Extension, an organization that supports the Diocese of Knoxville and other mission dioceses around the United States, recently visited East Tennessee to produce a video focusing on the Diocese of Knoxville's Youth and Young Adult Ministry's Pastoral Juvenil program. The Pastoral Juvenil office recognizes the large number of young Hispanics in our diocese and seeks to reach them in a culturally and linguistically sensitive fashion. Watch video.
Seasonal farm workers in Unicoi County receive clothes and spiritual gifts from diocese
The Office of Hispanic Ministry would like to thank the community for your help with the winter clothes collection for the seasonal farmer workers of Unicoi County. More than 200 workers from three farms benefited from the collection. Along with the clothing, workers received a spiritual goody bag with a rosary and prayer cards along with a snack for the day as a reminder of God’s love for them. This will become a yearly collection that will start in the spring.
Domestic Violence Awareness presentation Oct. 23
St. Therese Parish in Clinton is sponsoring a diocesan-wide Domestic Violence Awareness Program on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Guest speaker Marilyn Hafner, Volunteer Lay Chaplain for the Family Justice Center in Knoxville, will be discussing the services it offers as far as a safe haven and counseling for all ages. At the end of the presentation, there will be time for questions and answers along with refreshments.
Young adults invited to share their views
at a Mass and dinner on Nov. 1
The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry invites young adults to join them for Mass, free dinner, and discussion about what you would like to see from the diocese as a young adult and what your needs are. Any young adult (18-35) is welcome. The group will meet for Mass at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. and then gather next door at the Chancery at 805 S. Humanae Vitae film to be shown on Oct. 23 
Sexual Revolution: 50 Years Since Humanae Vitae, a documentary that examines the parallel developments of the birth control pill and modern Natural Family Planning (NFP), will be shown at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Lenoir City on Oct. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. The film will also be shown on Feb. 17 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Dominic Church in Kingsport. Special collection requested Nov. 3-4 for Hurricanes Florence and Michael victims
The Diocese of Knoxville is requesting that parishes take up a second collection at Masses Nov. 3-4 for disaster relief and victims of Hurricanes Florence and Michael. Funds will assist the ongoing efforts of Catholic Charities USA to provide humanitarian aid for the immediate help of those in need in the affected areas as well as the long-term efforts to restore communities after such widespread destruction. Also, funds will go to support the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ efforts to assist with pastoral and reconstruction aid to the Church. Humanitarian funds for any future disasters impacting communities outside the United States may be shared with Catholic Relief Services for their response efforts.
Dignity and Vocation of Women retreat in December
The Christ Prince of Peace Retreat Center is hosting a three-day retreat for women. This retreat, led by Father David Mary Engo, F.F.M., will focus on Pope Saint John Paul II’s document: “The Dignity and Vocation of Women.” In addition to the conferences there will be ample time for prayer, journaling, socializing, and relaxation.
