Thank you for the amazing work we accomplished at the Farm together!
Thank you for the amazing work we accomplished at the Farm together!
Thank you, Volunteers!
April's theme of Spring Cleaning at the Farm was a huge success, thanks to all of the amazing efforts of our volunteers.
It has been an absolute pleasure to meet each and every volunteer who has joined us at Hilltop Hanover Farm over the last few weeks: thank you for taking time to help dust and declutter, weed and walk around with us. While early season work at the farm may seem trivial at times, our volunteers have truly helped our farmers get started off on the right foot for a prosperous and prolific growing season. I hope you have left here with a little more knowledge, and a little more confidence in what you can accomplish!

I hope to see you back on the farm soon.

"Spring cleaning isn't just about sorting through things and getting rid of clutter. It's about taking stock of who you are, and how others see you.
It's a chance to re-define yourself, to change expectations, and to remember that it's never too late to recapture who you were, or to aim for who you want to be."
- Clarissa Pinkola Estes
We had a great turnout for our Potato Planting Community Work Day on April 16th!
Four varieties of potatoes were planted, and will be ready to harvest during the heat of summer: keep an eye on our fields and spot the first sprouts!
April 2022 Volunteer Highlights
Four weeks of Volunteerism
What have we accomplished together in just over thirty days? So much!
Our grounds are open to the public on Fridays from 1-6pm and Saturdays from 10am-4pm: visit us throughout the year to see how these areas change, thanks in part to our volunteers' efforts.
Scroll down for a look at what we have tackled so far in 2022!
Over two days and six hours, Beekeeper DJ led our volunteers for an engaging + informative cleanup of our beehives!
Old Honeycomb: a sticky and tricky job to remove
Lots of scraping was needed to give our new bee-residents a clean home!
Each beehive is made up of several layers of boxes, for different bee-activities.
Spring Break volunteers prepared a vital Hardening Off + transition area for our delicate seedlings, with trench digging, tarp laying-
- and sanitizing over 100 plant trays to be re-used for more seedlings!
To celebrate Earth Day, volunteers made bouquets for donation to a local community theater!
Lori F. and her fellow actors were so happy to receive Hilltop Hanover flowers on their opening night!
Stay out of our field! Volunteers helped tie up mesh critter fencing to keep our limber deer out of the growing fields.
Clean signs ready for a creative touch- what sort of signage would you like to see this year? (psst- you can pop into our Farm Sign craft morning on 5/7 !)
Native Plant manager Emily led volunteers in tidying up our native beds, which were suffocating under the weight of weeds and landscape fabric;
One bed at a time, these natives are now cleaned up and have plenty of room to grow!
In order to help hold down landscape fabric, over 300lbs of sand was divvied up into 10lb bags: that's a lot of sandbags!
Hay and landscape fabric are examples of two types of weed prevention in the growing fields, with pros and cons for both methods.
As we dealt with weeds and heavy winds, fresh hay was laid down - bye-bye big hay bale!
