Searching for the Next Worship Pastor
1. Worship is a Core Value
Worshipping authentically is one of our highest values at Deermeadows. We strive not to attempt any false pretenses with our God. We can be confused or contented and He still receives us. We can be angry or joyful and God will not reject us. In the process of being genuine before our God – not only on Sundays, but each day – He transforms us into His image. Our world desperately needs God’s image bearers walking among them.
Where God has brought us by Mark Groves’ ministry, and the ministry of previous worship pastors, is now our baseline. We are obligated to build on it and keep the church moving forward for this and future generations of worshippers.
2. Searching is a Process
With the assistance of the Personnel Committee, the church will select a search committee. As the previous paragraph states, this committee’s duty will not be to preserve our preferences but to discover who God has to lead the church forward to reach our city for Christ and to help each of us enjoy a total lifestyle of worship.
The search committee will work to determine baseline qualifications for candidates – all the while remaining open to the Spirit’s guidance (remember: your current pastor had his own phone number wrong on the resume...and you still invited me in). These baseline qualifications will be determined with direct input from the congregation of Deermeadows.
The search committee will report regularly to the church as they explore multiple outlets for candidates, conduct thorough research, determine whom to interview and, in time, present this person to the church to be considered for the position of Worship Pastor.
At this point, the committee has not been selected nor has anyone been invited to serve on the committee.
3. You have a Part
Will you please begin praying each day for the work of those who will be involved in the search process? Will you pray also for God to signal in our next worship pastor’s heart/mind and in their family a call to respond to serve the church at Deermeadows?
Prayer is work and I hold the promise of 2 Corinthians 1:11 close at hand,
Please help us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks for the blessings we receive in answer to all these prayers.
