Hello Sakai Families,

Our clean air is back! It felt so wonderful to be outdoors this weekend. Even doing yard work felt like a treat. I hope you and your family were able to spend some time together outside over the weekend engaged in activities that bring you joy.

Thank you so much for coming to our virtual Back to School Night last Tuesday. We had a great turn out. Below is a link to the Question and Answer document that came from the webinar. I also included a few questions that have come up since. Again, please feel free to reach out if you have further questions.

This Friday we have a materials pick from 10-3. Every student will have a bag with their Sakai Reads book, and some will have additional materials. See the map below for the pick up route. Please come by when it's convenient during that time. If you are unable to come on Friday, we will also have the bags out on the following Tuesday, September 29th, from 3-6. You can always arrange a time to swing by the office as well.

We are almost three weeks into this school year. While we are always looking to improve, your feedback right now is especially important. We encourage you to participate in the district Thoughtexchange. This information will help Sakai and our district identify areas of strength as well as areas of improvement.

Happy Fall!

Drew Crandall
From the School Counselor

Well here we are entering our fourth week in school.  We are all settling into new and different routines as we transition into Fall, one of my favorite seasons of the year.  We have been focusing in our classrooms on helping students feel Cared for, Comfortable and Connected at Sakai.  During COHO time and on the morning Broadcast we have introduced the four R’s of Sakai as a framework for how all members of the Sakai Community live and work together.  At Sakai we are Responsible, Respectful, Reasonable and Reliable.  We are all focusing on building a positive Community at Sakai.  During the next couple of weeks COHO Time is time devoted to spending time in team building activities and building up the classroom community.

I have had the opportunity to visit each classroom in the past week and a half and meet your students on ZOOM. I introduced them to the counseling program at Sakai and they were all introduced to the Counselor Corner Google site on their student launch pad and taught how to access me during this time of remote learning with the Counselor Check In Google form.  This Check in Form is on the homepage of the Counselor Corner.  As parents, feel free to reach out to me anytime via email or telephone if you would like to discuss your student experience here at Sakai or if there is anything we can do to partner with you for your students' success.

Last week all students who were new to the Bainbridge Island School District were invited to a Zoom Lunch Bunch.  While we are in this remote learning mode, this week I am beginning to offer ZOOM Lunch Bunch sessions for all interested students.  This is a time to each lunch, get to know students from other classes and have some fun.  Reach out to your student’s teacher or directly to me if this is something your student would like to participate in.

Remember, the school counselor is available to students via email, phone or a Check In form available on the Counselor Corner.   Parents and teachers may also request a check in with their student. Feel free to call me anytime if you have questions about Coho Time or if you would like to check in about your student.   I look forward to partnering with you to help your students have a successful school year.
