"I tried a few odd jobs in K-12 education, non-profits, and local government before finding my niche in higher education services."
Reaghan enjoys helping students reach their goals by providing the services they need to be successful. Outside of work she loves music, video games, movies, swimming, yoga, and her two cats, Buffy and Bowie.
Mark MacNamara began his role as the Director of Military Affiliated Students and Strategic Initiatives, in the Office of Student Success, on November 25. As the Director of Military Affiliated Students and Strategic Initiatives Mark recruits students and staff who are veterans, reservists, active-duty military, and their families, as well as prospective military service members, and anyone with questions or concerns about affiliating with the Department of Defense. Additionally he is responsible for leading efforts to ensure that UT Health Science Center remains, and evolves as, a military-friendly institution by providing strong support to the military and veteran community.
Originally from The Bronx, New York City, Mark served as a career naval officer, and has had the privilege of living in a variety of locations including Washington DC, Pearl Harbor, Virginia Beach, San Diego, Greenville; Naples, Italy and most recently, Germantown. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Master of Science degree in Project Management from the University of Maryland.
"I served in the United States Navy for 24 years and throughout my military career... Despite all of the changes that come with a military service, one constant remained... my commitment to the belief that Sailors need dedicated, strong leaders, mentorship, and the development of the next generation. This dedication to service and a desire to positively impact students and the campus community, ultimately drew me to the UT Health Science Center.
In the Navy, we had a saying: 'Sailors are forged by the sea.' I see a similar philosophy in the UT Health Science Center's vision, as we are dedicated to developing healthcare professionals through a rigorous academic and clinical experience that will enable them to make an immediate, positive impact on our communities."
Outside of work Mark is passionate about college football, traveling, and exploring new cultures and cuisines. Mark and his wife, Shannon, have two children and two dogs who keep them entertained and active.
Please extend a warm welcome to Reaghan Gough and Mark MacNamara!
