Dear SEI community,
I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work and dedication of our SEI community. After a couple of months back in the thick of activities, it is clear to me that your contributions are more important than ever as we continue to address the pressing challenges of our time. As seen at the recent University of Sydney Climate Research Forum, there are genuine and implementable responses and solutions to the climate crisis being developed across our community.
Coming up, we're closing our 2024 Climate and Biodiversity Crises Series with an engaging panel on one of the more challenging issues facing biodiversity preservation. The event, Will putting a price on nature protect it?, has generated tremendous interest, selling out well in advance. For those who haven’t secured a spot, I encourage you to join the waitlist below for your chance to join the conversation.
I’m also excited to highlight an exceptional opportunity coming up – a seminar with United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development, Professor Surya Deva. Fresh from the United Nations General Assembly, Professor Deva will launch his report on Climate Justice: Loss and Damage. This is a rare chance to gain firsthand insights into the global conversation on climate justice, and I strongly encourage you to attend.
There will be much more to come as we head towards the end of the year, and SEI staff and members are busy coordinating a number of events and opportunities. Given the scope of the environmental and climate crises we face, there’s much to accomplish, and I’m confident that, as a community, we can and will make a meaningful impact.
Will putting a price on nature protect it?
Our expert panel will discuss whether assigning economic value to nature can promote responsible environmental stewardship or if it diminishes its inherent worth.
Join us to hear from UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development, Prof Surya Deva, just days after his presentation at the United Nations General Assembly.
In this episode of the SEI Podcast Series, experts discuss how nature-based solutions, such as wetlands and mangroves, can serve as natural climate buffer infrastructure.
SEI has responded to the draft NSW Disaster Adaptation Plan Guidelines, advocating for stronger community-centred approaches to disaster risk reduction.
