The theme of the Department’s spring programming will be “Black Solidarity Politics.” The Black Studies Programming Committee would like you invite you to save the date on the upcoming programming for Spring 2025:

- Week of April 21st – 2025 Annual Grace Holt Lecture & Celebration

The Global Middle East Studies program is accepting applications for their inaugural annual symposium on April 3, 2025.
To apply, please complete the online application form no later than February 3, 2025.

Narratives of the Urban Past: UIC Student History Conference |

|
| Join the UIC Department of History students for the second annual Student History Conference.
This is an interdisciplinary conference that all UIC graduate and undergraduate students are welcome to attend and submit proposals.
To submit your conference proposal, complete the online application by January 15, 2025.

Applications for the 2025 Grace Holt Memorial Award Open January 1, 2025! |

Are you a UIC undergraduate or graduate student committed to racial justice? We invite you to apply for our Grace Holt Memorial Award! This $1000 scholarship recognizes outstanding students at UIC and in the Black Studies Department as a part of our annual Grace Holt Lecture and Celebration. Applications will open on SnAP January 1, 2025 and are due March 31, 2025! Full descriptions of each award and their application requirements/qualifications are available on our website!

Course Description:
Sports, fandom, and sports culture are global phenomena. This course is designed to explore the relationship between sports and criminalization in the US, with specific attention to the importance of race, class, and gender.
