Twenty-five years ago, Professor Bernard Helldorfer, Esq., ‘77CBA, ‘80L, founded the St. John’s University Intercollegiate Mock Trial Team. The team consists of the top students from each of the undergraduate colleges of the University.

MEET OUR NEW FACULTY
During the Fall 2016 semester, CPS established The Institute for International Communication.  The Institute serves as a focal point to trans-disciplinary approaches to communication research and supports various scholarly activities.  Dr. Basilio Monteiro serves as the Institute’s Director.

In May, 2016 St. John's University’s Board of Trustees approved a proposed degree program, Doctor of Professional Studies (DPS) in Homeland Security.  This is a significant event in the evolution of the College of Professional Studies, as it will represent the first terminal degree offered by the College and blazes a path for similar program initiatives.  With the DPS degree, St. John’s will be the first traditional, brick-and-mortar, nonprofit educational institution currently offering doctoral level studies in homeland security.

On September 22, 2016, St. John's students and faculty welcomed Isa Mustafa, Prime Minister of Kosovo, for a speech and discussion on the economic, social and political development of this young Republic. More than 200 students attended this special event arranged by the Institute for International Communication.

This past year, two students in the College of Professional Studies, Alexis King and Cristina Diaz, worked with professors from the Division of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science, Dr. Bonnie MacKellar and Dr. Christina Schweikert, on a research project that was supported by the Collaborative Research Experiences for Undergraduates (CREU program).  The students presented their work, "Pediatric Cancer Clinical Trial Eligibility Criteria Analysis", in poster sessions during research month here at the University and at the Consortium for Computing Science in Colleges.

Dr. Joseph Marotta was born in Brooklyn, attended Regis High School and Manhattan College, and received his Ph.D. from CUNY, specializing in medieval literature, in 1972. He started teaching at St. John’s University’s Brooklyn campus in 1968 when the college was the School of General Studies. Now in his 49th year at St. John’s, he is a full professor in the Division of English and Speech in the College of Professional Studies.

Associate Dean Andrew Bhola has dedicated over thirty years of service to the College of Professional Studies. He currently holds the title of Associate Dean, Student Advisement and Services. In this capacity he manages the Advising Deans on the Queens Campus as well as the Staten Island administrators and staff.

Antonina Asaro began her career at St. John’s in 1999, in the Department of Health Services. In 2001, she transferred to the College of Professional Studies supporting and assisting the academic deans, students and faculty. In 2012, she was assigned to support the Chairs and faculty of three academic divisions in CPS.
