Dear Colleagues,
Happy October! As we approach the halfway point in the semester, our activities are well underway. Hopefully, you’ve been able to attend a student event, or one of the many programming opportunities on campus for our staff.
This month’s eNewsletter is full of information, from Leadership Week to registering to host a Bears Family Dinner, I know you’ll find something to engage with!
Starting this week, October 4, I am hosting Career Conversations with Dr. G for members of the Division of Student Affairs. Organized by professional levels, this program provides space to connect with me and your peers on your career goals and interests. To learn more and register, please visit the Career Conversations with Dr. G web page.
On Saturday, October 19, we are hosting a post-game tailgate in collaboration with our colleagues in Human Resources. The event follows our women’s soccer team’s match-up against New York University, which begins at Francis Olympic Field at 11 a.m. The tailgate includes food trucks, giant yard games, face painting, and a photo booth. To learn more and RSVP, visit the event page here. RSVPs are requested by EOD on October 4.
Finally, our inaugural Leadership Week is October 23-25. Student Affairs is working closely with the Bauer Leaders Academy to provide a range of programming throughout the week. Please follow along closely, plan to attend yourself, and share opportunities with students.
I’ll see you all again on Wednesday, October 16, for our next Divisional meeting beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Risa Commons.
Warmly,
|

Parent & Family Weekend 2024 & Bears Family Dinner
|
Parent & Family Weekend is November 1-3! The weekend is a time for families and students to reconnect, learn more about WashU and explore the St. Louis area. Approximately 2,500 family members are expected to participate in more than 70 events over three days. The success of the event relies on the support of WashU staff and faculty. Your assistance is needed to welcome families at Check-In and at the Family BBQ. Please sign up for a shift by end of day on Friday, October 11.
Students whose families are unable to attend Parent & Family Weekend are invited to join faculty, staff, and fellow students for a Bears Family Dinner at the City Foundry STL on either Fri., Nov. 1 or Sat., Nov. 2 from 5-7:30 p.m. If you would like to be a staff host, please sign up for the night that works best for you. If you know students in your area who might want to attend Bears Family Dinner, encourage them to register. More details are on the sign-up page. For questions, contact Mimi Mudd.

Bearprints for Success now enrolling for next session
|
Do you know a first-year student who would benefit from a small-group seminar to talk about transitioning to life at WashU? L43 1100, Bearprints for Success, is now enrolling for the next seven-week session.
This one-credit course is designed to help new students make a successful transition to WashU, both academically and personally. It sets students on a path where they will engage with academic readings, interactive activities and empirically based strategies centered on the five core anchors of Student Affairs: Healthy Excellence; Leadership; Career Development; Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion; and Student Engagement & Belonging. The course also introduces students to key academic success and learning resources that will optimize their experiences at the university. Visit this website or contact Lauren McCoy to learn more.
