Check Out Our Neighborhoods, Spartans!

MSU is a big campus, but MSU Neighborhoods helps it feel manageable. Our residence halls are separated into five neighborhoods, and each neighborhood has its own vibe and features as well as offers a wide range of programs, activities and support services for students.
Each neighborhood also includes an engagement center, which serves as a main access point to important resources to help you adjust to your class load, decide on your major, and work toward graduation.

You must sign your Housing Contract, found in your My Housing account, in May to be able to pick your own neighborhood and room. Students enrolled in a living-learning community will be assigned to certain halls depending on the program.

Living-Learning Community Guidelines
Each living-learning community (LLC) has different guidelines when it comes to halls students are allowed to live in, and if you can have a roommate who is not part of the LLC. Click here for a list of each LLC and the guidelines for room selection. If you have questions about roommates or housing requirements for an LLC program, please contact your program directly.
Roommate Assignments
This year, MSU has partnered with My College Roomie to offer roommate matching for incoming and current Spartans. Keep an eye out for an email from My College Roomie, which is specifically tailored for Michigan State University students and is offered to Spartans free of charge. Click here to learn more. If you do not select a roommate, check your My Housing account in July to find out who your new roommate will be!
Spartan Compass
The Spartan Compass program offers residential programming and engagement for first-year students that encourages inclusive community building and student success. The emphasis on connectivity and support within the first-year student community assists in adapting to life at MSU and the unique transitions that each new college student faces.

Our goal is to encourage the building of strong relationships, help students find their niche on campus and guide students to start discovering their identity as a member of our diverse Spartan family. To learn more about this program, visit liveon.msu.edu/spartan-compass.
Eat At State: Nutrition
Wherever you eat on campus, your health is one of our top priorities. In each campus neighborhood, you’ll find an executive chef who oversees the creation of daily menus, including vegetarian, vegan and allergy-friendly offerings.
If you have a food allergy or intolerance, we encourage you to reach out to our registered dietitian at dietitians@rhs.msu.edu prior to coming to campus. They are available to provide expertise and collaborate with the chefs and dining hall managers to identify safe menu options that fit your needs.
You’ll also want to check out our newest dining hall, Thrive at Riverwalk Market, serving certified allergen-free meals. Our nationally recognized food allergy program creates a personalized experience for diners, and nutrition and allergen information is always available at eatatstate.com
