Introducing 2015 SunDown Voices Award Honoree
Trevor Hendershot
Trevor’s arrival on May 4, 1990 was a big surprise to his mother Melissa and his father Robert. At the time they weren’t sure if they were equipped to parent a son with Down syndrome, and yet raising their special son Trevor along with his two more typical younger brothers Taylor and Tanner has been one of the greatest blessings in their lives.  A few highlights about Trevor…

Trevor was bullied as a freshman and yet in his senior year the faculty drafted him onto the Homecoming Court and then his classmates elected him Homecoming King in perhaps the greatest landslide in Irvine’s Northwood High school history.

Trevor has played special needs soccer, floor hockey, basketball and flag football. Robert has coached his football team for the past three seasons while Trevor played quarterback, threw 67 touchdown passes and led his team to a 25-0-1 record.

In 2012 Trevor was hired and still works for both the L.A. Angels and the Anaheim Ducks as Team Store Greeter. The O.C. Register wrote two articles and Fox Sports produced a video describing Trevor’s extraordinary impact at these sports venues.

Trevor met Albert Pujols at Angel Stadium and then his Foundation developed the proposal to “Trevorize” North America—they’re encouraging every MLB (and possibly NHL) team to hire people with Down syndrome to work at their stadiums.

 Trevor’s family definitely believes that his most lasting influence over the years has been among the hundreds of parishioners he’s inspired with his beautiful smile, cheerful personality and Spirit-filled singing at church on Sunday mornings.  

Robert, Melissa, Taylor and Tanner’s overwhelming love and tremendous admiration for Trevor has only continued to grow during the many trials and triumphs they have all experienced together. Truly, they do consider themselves, as a family, most richly blessed!
