Tufts Global Education: Deadlines and Overview |
|
|
Dear Student,
Education abroad is a valuable experience that can enrich both your academic and personal growth, regardless of your major. Tufts Global Education offers a multitude of avenues to expand your academic journey at and beyond Tufts, and now is the time to explore your options. Carefully review this entire message to start planning. We admit students into this process just once a year for all semester- and year-long program options. Pay close attention to essential steps and deadlines provided below to ensure you don’t miss this opportunity!
|
Attend Our Tufts Global Education Fair |
Wednesday, September 13 | 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Alumnae Lounge |
- Review important deadlines and program options below.
-
Complete the First Steps Canvas course or attend an in-person First Steps session to learn about programs, policies, and timelines.
-
Discuss education abroad with your academic or major advisor to map out various degree and major requirements; we recommend saving a few of the more flexible requirements (e.g., distribution credits) for your time abroad.
|
Applying for a semester or year-long program is a multi-step process that begins the academic year before you are interested in going abroad. Early preparation is key, regardless of when you decide to go. While our Education Abroad Timeline provides an overview of the application process and timeline, be sure to read through the information below, as well as the Tufts Programs Abroad application page or the External Programs application page for additional details about the application process.
|
November 1: Register Your Intent to Study Abroad – REQUIRED |
-
Complete your intent form in the academic year prior to your planned departure. (Example: Submit by November 1, 2023 to study abroad Fall 2024, Spring 2025, or Full Year 2024-2025.)
-
Submitting an Intent to Study Abroad Form is a mandatory step for participation in an education abroad program. Registration of intent is non-binding; however, failure to register your intent by this deadline will make you ineligible to apply and for further consideration.
- Registering your intent excludes you from the on-campus housing lottery for that academic year. You can choose to be placed on a waitlist for on-campus housing. Additional questions about the waitlist and housing application process should be directed to Residential Life.

December 1: Tufts-in-Oxford Applications Due |
-
Applicants to Tufts in Oxford must first be approved by Tufts Global Education staff no later than November 1 of their sophomore year to be eligible. Review Tufts-in-Oxford program details and application process on our website and then contact Melanie Armstrong for further instruction.
|
September – January: Advising Period |
February 1: Applications Due
|
-
Submit your application no later than February 1, 2024, to study abroad in Fall 2024, Spring 2025, or the Full Academic Year 2024-2025 for Tufts Programs Abroad and External Programs.
-
Only students who submitted an Intent to Study Abroad Form may submit an application to Tufts for a Tufts Programs Abroad or approved external program.
|
Special Considerations: External Program-Specific Applications
Students participating in an approved external program must also apply directly to their approved external program. Visit our External Programs application page to learn more about balancing the internal Tufts Global Education deadlines and your chosen external program’s application process.
|
Program options range from semester- or year-long programs partnered with universities around the world to short-term winter and summer programs abroad. Typically, students opt for semester- or year-long study abroad during their junior year; however, you might also consider participating in your sophomore or senior year if that better aligns with your academic needs. Summer and other short-term options abroad are usually an option at any point throughout your Tufts career.
