We Voted.. and we will again.
After a lot of thoughtful comments from pundits, planners, and politicians, we voted.
Y'all know I voted for transit. The thing is, I think most of you want a solution. You still want a plan, but not this one. I hear you.
I have asked for the polling stats for the 4 voting precincts in D8. I'm curious to see if the votes were different south of Briley Pkwy than North of Briley Pkway.
Joey Garrison from the Tennesseean ( who lives in D8, BTW) made a profound statement on Twitter today; "Basically, if your neighborhood has Jeni's Ice Cream, it voted for the plan. If it doesn't then it voted against the plan." For the record, I love Mike's Ice Cream and you should get some at D8's own Sip Cafe.
The thing that stood out to me today was how we are now, only now, calling it "The Plan" as opposed to "Transit". I don't think Nashville voted "Against Transit". I think it voted "Against the Plan." I could tell you that I still think the plan was good, that doesn't matter now. What does matter is that I hear you.
And so Does Mayor David Briley; "My responsibility as Mayor is to get back to the drawing board and find the common ground to develop consensus on a new way forward. Our transportation problems are not going away; in fact, we know they’re only going to get more challenging as we continue to grow. I’ll get back to work tomorrow on finding a solution for Nashville that we all can agree on."
Friday early voting begins for greatest responsibility a Nashvillian can take, the job of Mayor. Mayor David Briley has my vote. I'll cast it early at the Fifty Forward Madison Station poll before I head downtown to hear the State of Metro Address on Friday, May 4 at 10 am.
Let's get back on track, Nashville. Our best days really are still ahead of us.
