UT Announces the launch of ORIED
UT's new Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development (ORIED) expands the mission of the former Office of Research and Engagement, in an effort to provide faculty based in Knoxville, Nashville, and Tullahoma with the support necessary to conduct world-class research, scholarship, and creative work and to enhance the impact of this work in Tennessee and around the world.

UT Rallies Support to Land Prestigious NIH T32 Training Grant

Todd Reynolds, professor of microbiology, recently received a prestigious T32 graduate student training grant from the National Institute of Health. Reynolds led the Integrated Membrane Program (IMP) T32 Training Grant proposal effort to address a gap that exists in the biomedical workforce of the future: integrated training for studying biological membranes.

Scientists at UTIA have been awarded $550,000 from the National Science Foundation to understand ice recrystallization in frozen items, and to study ways to restrict the growth of ice crystals caused by fluctuations in freezing temperatures. 
University of Tennessee students exhibited creativity designing floating wetlands
Chancellor Plowman has authorized the investment of $1M in recurring funds to elevate graduate assistant minimum stipends by up to 20%. Graduate assistants are essential to UT's success, as both teaching assistants and innovators in the university's research enterprise.

Earlier this summer, the first class of participants in the Academy for Global Scholars traveled to San José, Costa Rica, for a week-long service-learning experience to renovate the landscape at Parque La Libertad (Liberty Park).
