Raju Datla, PI, Davidson Lab & CEOE Research Associate Professor, received a DARPA award of $196K (plus optional funds of $619K) for his project “Experimental Assessment of Wing-in-Ground Effect (WIG) Craft Design,” with Gibbs & Cox as prime.

Jacob Gissinger, PI and CEMS Assistant Professor, received an Ingenium Scientific, Inc. award of $75K for his project “Molecular Modeling of Hypersonic Materials."

Yi Guo, PI and ECE Thomas E. Hattrick Chair Professor, received an SES award of $20K for her project “BRIDGING: End-to-End Control Integrating Sensing and Learning for Real-World Robotic Systems.”

Jinho Kim, PI and BME Assistant Professor, received an NSF award of $150K for his project “NSF I-Corps Hub: New York Region,” with CUNY as prime.

Dibyendu (Dibs) Sarkar, PI and CEOE Professor, Christos Christodoulatos, Co-PI, CES & CEOE Professor, and Zhiming Zhang, Co-PI, Rowan University, received a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers award of $687K (plus optional funds of $208K) for their project “Making SCWO Treatment of PFAS-Contaminated Water More Sustainable.” 

Yong Meng Sua, PI, CQSE & PHY Research Assistant Professor, received a Brookhaven National Laboratory award of $45K for his project “Upgrading Photon Detector of the T2 lidar for High-Quality.”

Johannes Weickenmeier, PI and ME Assistant Professor, received an NSF CAREER award of $571K for his project “Biomechanical Characterization of Periventricular White Matter and its Age-Related Degeneration.”

Xiaodong Yu, PI and CS Assistant Professor, received an NSF award of $175K for his project “CRII: OAC: A Compressor-Assisted Collective Communication Framework for GPU-Based Large-Scale Deep Learning.”

Xiaojun Yu, PI and BME Professor, received an NIH award of $409K for his project “Ionically Conductive Polymeric Biomaterials and Grafts for Nerve Regeneration,” with University of Connecticut Health Center as prime.

The work of Annie Zhang, ME Assistant Professor, along with Yingtao Wang, ME doctoral student and Mona Savalia, ME undergraduate student, titled "Novel wet transfer technology of manufacturing flexible suspended two-dimensional material devices" has been selected as an Editor's Pick in Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology B. 

The work of Hossam Aboalela, CEOE doctoral candidate, titled "Effects of piezoelectric energy harvesting from a morphing flapping tail on its performance" was recently accepted for publication in the journal Applied Energy (Impact factor of 11.2). 

Isabella Furrick, CEMS undergraduate student, won second place at the 2024 Independent Colleges and Universities of New Jersey (ICUNJ) Undergraduate Research Symposium. Her research combined quantum mechanical level modeling with machine learning to enhance our understanding of nickel catalysts for hydrogen fuel cells. 

Gabriel Sorci, PHY undergraduate student, received a $3,000 Novartis Science Scholarship for his research presented at the 2024 Independent Colleges and Universities of New Jersey (ICUNJ) Undergraduate Research Symposium.

CEMS undergraduate students Jennifer Gonzales-Pasion and Isabella Furrick (pictured) were both awarded prestigious Department of Energy (DOE) Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) for the upcoming summer 2024. These internships enable both students to pursue and expand their current research into nickel catalysts for hydrogen fuel cells by working onsite with experts at Sandia National Laboratories.
