We were deeply saddened by the loss of MARTA CEO Jeff Parker earlier this week. He was a visionary in the world of transit and the reverberations of his passing will be felt for a very long time. The entire Gateway85 CID sends its condolences to his family and friends.

Cheers to 2022!

On January 7, Gateway85 CID held its first board meeting of 2022 where we shared information on the unprecedented number of projects successfully completed in 2021.

We identified more than 150 infrastructure updates to complete, created more than three miles of new sidewalks to improve mobility, repaired and painted 1,000 walls, handrails and ADA curb cuts and added a tremendous number of license plate readers to improve district safety and security.

We accomplished so much in 2021 but 2022 will likely prove to be our biggest year yet!

Congresswoman Bourdeaux Attends Gateway85 Board Meeting

We were honored to have U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux join our January 7 board meeting to give an update on the latest happening in Washington, D.C., and how it will impact our neck of the woods. Congresswoman Bourdeaux discussed how the Recovery Act, which she helped pen, has assisted hundreds of small businesses, along with new legislation she is introducing with bi-partisan support to provide tax credits for ventilation systems. She also spoke of funding for highway updates, increasing funding for transit, deployment of electric vehicle charging stations, funding for drinking water and more. Congresswoman Bourdeaux also presented her abandoned mall bill, which will help to incent real estate redevelopment around dead malls like our neighboring Gwinnett Place Mall.

Project Updates

The board unanimously approved Gateway85 CID’s 2022 budget, which will focus on four pillars as part of our economic development strategy:

Promote redevelopment of the OFS site
- Gateway85 CID will be working in partnership with Gwinnett County to study the development of the OFS site into a mixed-use, transit-oriented development that will benefit the entire community
Improve transportation options in the CID
- Greater mobility and access options will attract higher use businesses, employees and continue to drive area property values
Improve the quality of jobs in the CID
- New developments and repurposing aging assets will attract larger companies offering higher wages, improving job quality and quality of life in the area.
Continue to improve the physical environment
- Reimagine Jimmy Carter Boulevard into a main corridor with new medians, streetlights, mast arms and landscaping
- Double the number of license plate readers district-wide
- Evaluate updates for the diverging diamond interchange

By focusing on these four pillars, ultimately our goal is to become the top location for business in metro Atlanta!

Nonprofit Spotlight: GACS Can-A-Thon

Congratulations to the Greater Atlanta Christian School for donating a record-breaking 34,000 canned foods to the annual 11Alive Can-A-Thon Food Drive. As a result, four trucks were packed with non-perishable foods and shipped off to the Salvation Army Center in Lawrenceville, where they will feed Gwinnett families in need.

Gateway85 is proud to have the school located within the district and the opportunity to engage with the Chancellor of GACS, David Fincher, these past few years. David’s commitment to improving the community we serve earned him the title of Gateway85 CID Brand Ambassador. As an ambassador, David was featured in our series of brand ambassador testimonials, which you can watch here. To the students and staff at GACS, keep up the excellent work!
