Grad Career News
June 2018
June Greetings from Grad Career Services
This month, we focus on networking and making the most of your summer -- along with time for quality R&R, of course.
From strengthening your LinkedIn profile to brushing up on small talk skills, there are plenty of ways to develop professional connections in preparation for interviews, conferences, the semester ahead (or all three!).
New Graduates: Now that commencement has passed and it’s finally starting to feel like summer,  please take 5 minutes to tell us about your post-grad plans. Still looking?  Make an advising appointment via Handshake, our online appointment & job listing database.

FAQ of the Month
What's the best way to connect with someone on LinkedIn?
The summer is a great time to cultivate existing connections and look for ways to expand your network. Make sure you tailor your messages as you invite others to connect with you.
Quick tips for customization:
  • Remind the person how you know him/her (1-2 sentences) or mention something you have in common (fellow Tufts grad student, perhaps?)
  • If you're reaching out to start a conversation, tell your recipient what would be helpful in specific, easy-to-say-yes terms, e.g., “Would it be possible to schedule a 20-minute phone call in the next few weeks? I’d love to ask you a few questions about XYZ …”
  • Express gratitude -- early and often!
