TIPS FOR TRAVEL DURING THE HOLIDAYS
Holidays are stressful… For many, it's difficult to keep healthy habits.  The secret is planning ahead!
Familiarize yourself with your health insurance plan. Make sure your medical coverage travels with you. Some plans do not. If this is the case, consider purchasing traveler’s medical insurance. 
  • Make sure you have all your daily medications and supplements.
  • Carry healthy snacks.
  • Carry emergency cash for unknown situations. 
  • Carry a first-aid kit with the staple items like band-aids, pain relievers, anti-bacterial creams, and sunscreen. 
  • Get plenty of sleep and if necessary, work to acclimate yourself to time-changes. 
  • Wash your hands frequently and carry hand-sanitizer when you’re on the go. 
  • When driving for a long period of time, pull over to take a stretch breaks and restore blood flow to the body.
  • Be sure to stop every 1-2 hours and take a stretch/walk break. Most state-owned rest stops in NC have paved walking paths.  If you prefer to walk indoors, a shopping mall is a great option.
  • Stretch... Use a bench to stretch your lower back with a lunge motion.  Use the bench to go into a squat position. Do a downward-facing standing stretch,  Use the simple motion to reach your arms up one at a time…do shoulder rolls, head rolls, tilt your head from side to side.
  • Choose treats carefully to avoid weight gain..snack on nuts, fruit and vegetables.
  • Stay hydrated...drink plenty of water.
