A new report from News Desert U, a conference co-organized by Associate Professor Teri Finneman, examines challenges and opportunities in research, teaching and service for helping solve the news desert crisis. This is a starting point for future quarterly meetings discussing this issue. See the first report.
Associate Professor Genelle Belmas' research in progress, "Too Many Cases, Too Little Support: How the debate over what instructors teach in Media Law courses is a symptom of institutional changes in mass communication education," co-authored with Kyla Garrett Wagner (Syracuse) and Chip Stewart (Texas Christian) is featured in the AEJMC Scholastic Journalism fall newsletter. As the authors note, "Media law instructors are feeling the pressure to both conform to demand pressures from students and keep content current in our tumultuous times, which — by the way — requires a greater understanding of press and speech laws than perhaps ever before."
Professor Emeritus Chuck Marsh partnered with recent doctoral-program graduates Pan (Jackie) Liu and Mauryne Abwao to publish “Toward Consilience on Indirect Reciprocity: Strategic Communication Theory and Findings from Social Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology,” in a special issue of the International Journal of Strategic Communication.
