48-hour rite of passage
Students in Jim Gilmore's Advanced Media Production class recreate scenes from popular films—this year's choice was "Little Shop of Horrors"—and get a taste of what it's like to work in the film industry.
Making the pitch
Students' entrepreneurial passions were on display as they pitched their best business ideas during the Elliott Initiative Pitch Competition. The top prize went to the Veterans Refuge Network, which hopes to provide a place for counseling and treatment for military returning from active duty.
Sometimes it takes a village
The memories are fresh on Stein Brunvand's mind more than six months after returning from the trip he led to Johannesburg, South Africa—and they're one reason he is working with The Village of Joy orphanage to secure its home and its children’s futures.
On the fast track
Nearly 250 students from 44 high schools put their skills to the test at the ninth-annual Engineering/Computer Science Experience. The event often serves as a first look at campus—one that can have a lasting impression.
Announcements
- UM-Dearborn Chancellor Daniel Little received the Trailblazer Award from the Western Wayne County NAACP Branch for the campus' commitment to inclusion and diversity. Branch President Bishop Walter Starghill Jr. presented Little with the award at the March 18 Commitment to Inclusion alumni reception.
- The College of Education, Health, and Human Services' Alumni Affiliate welcomed 22 high-school students to UM-Dearborn on March 22 to compete in the Maize and Blue High School Classic. High schools in the Midwest were vying for a spot in the national quiz bowl tournament.
- More than 50 UM-Dearborn alumni and community leaders gathered April 2 for the campus' inaugural Unity Lunch. Organized by the Office of Inclusion, Office of Metropolitan Impact and the Alumni Relations team, the Unity Lunch provided a venue for alumni and community leaders to reengage and build upon the campus' inclusive campus environment.

UM-Dearborn's Alumni Relations Office is working with Harris Connect to produce a new alumni directory.
Harris Connect plans to contact  UM-Dearborn alumni via mail, email and phone over the next couple months, in an effort to collect updated contact information.
