As we approach this special time of year, my wish for each of you to have a happy, joyous holiday season. Let us be grateful for the good things that we have here in our community. It is a tremendous honor to represent District 4, and I truly appreciate your support. I hope that the new year will bring good things your way!

Coming Together at One Table
Council Member Kling was proud to attend this year’s One Table community meal presented by Village of Promise and expressed his gratitude to the organizers and volunteers who make this meaningful tradition possible each year. The event brought residents from across Huntsville together for fellowship, conversation and a shared holiday meal in the heart of the city.

Parks & Recreation is overflowing with the holiday spirit and has scheduled events throughout Huntsville. Events in District 4 include:
  • Paddles & Platters Holiday Pickleball Bash: Friday, Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., free, ages 50+, Brahan Spring Recreation Center
  • Holiday Parents Night Out: Friday, Dec. 12, 5-8 p.m., free, ages 6-12, Fern Bell Recreation Center, Register online by Monday, Dec. 8
  • Shining Stars Adaptive Talent Show: Friday, Dec. 12, 6-8 p.m., free, ages 6+, Jaycee Community Building in John Hunt Park

Supporting The Schools Foundation  
Council Member Kling recently allocated $5,000 from the District 4 Council Improvement Fund to Executive Director Jeanne Greer of The Schools Foundation to help provide educational programs and resources for Huntsville City Schools. The Schools Foundation serves as an advocate for public education across Madison County and strives to support local schools through programs, funding and strong support for principals, teachers and students.

Visiting UAH

Council Member Kling recently met with student leaders at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) at the Dreams to Reality breakfast meeting. As a former UAH Student Government Association legislator, Council Member Kling was honored to give back to the student leaders of today. The students talked about how UAH had positively impacted their lives and their dreams for the future.

Join Deck the Districts Competition
The City Council is continuing its traditional Deck the Districts competition for the best exterior home holiday decorations. Award winners from each district will be recognized with a prize package at the Dec. 18 Council meeting. Get some great pictures of your festive display and enter the contest.

Celebrating a Visionary
Council Member Bill Kling honored Julia Calvert at the Nov. 20 Council meeting, acknowledging her outstanding service to the Huntsville community through the creation of an adaptive climbing clinic. The clinic empowers individuals with physical disabilities to experience the joy and challenge of rock climbing and helps them achieve more than they ever thought possible.

A Parade to Salute Veterans
Council Member Bill Kling and his wife, Tanjie, joined in the Veterans Day celebration with a special ride in their friend Keith Buckman’s classic 1954 Chevrolet truck during the annual Veterans Day Parade. The Klings later gathered with members of the veteran community at American Legion Post 237 to enjoy a delicious feast of hamburgers and hot dogs. It was a wonderful day of honoring and celebrating our nation’s heroes.

Expanding Veterans Museum
In a project to honor Huntsville’s veterans and help teach others about our nation’s proud military history, the City recently broke ground on a 35,000-square-foot expansion of the U.S. Veterans Museum in John Hunt Park. Council Member Kling was among the speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony. The museum houses items that date to the Revolutionary War and the expansion will allow the museum to better display its inventory and add more artifacts.

Council Member Kling will hold his monthly drop-in office hours on Monday, Dec. 15, from 6-7 p.m. at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library downtown branch. Drop in for a conversation about D4 and share your insights about how to make Huntsville its best.
