Anita Hardy and Ashley Sauer Bring Great Service to the Table
A patron at Capers Market ordered a delicious veggie quiche and got a complimentary portion of great service courtesy of Anita Hardy (she/her) and Ashley Sauer (she/her). The guest wrote in with these comments:
"I am writing to compliment two of your employees: Ashley, the bartender who was filling in for someone out on sick leave, and Anita, server extraordinaire. Both were beyond efficient and friendly from start to finish during my first experience at Capers Market!
They were such a pleasure during a very busy morning around the bar and guest tables. I really wanted you to know that they are gems who work extremely hard to keep all your customers happy and served quickly.
Both Ashley and Anita got my morning of travel off on a positive note. Kudos to them and Capers Market for providing excellent service, delicious food and beverages.”

What's New with PDX Next: Roof Impacts,
Ticket Lobby Work and Crane Picks
Roof Impacts: As we move on to the next roof cassettes, expect impacts on the south side of ticket lobby and main bag road on Sept. 26 – 28. In the ticket lobby, Alaska, Spirit, Sun Country and Volaris counters may shift, though not all airlines will be affected on all days. This work will take place on Monday, Sept. 26, from midnight to 3 a.m. and on Tuesday, Sept. 27, and Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Keep in mind, roof work is very dynamic, and these dates could change.
Ticket Lobby Work: You’ll see scissor lifts in the ticket lobby near the south-central counters during both day and night shifts on Sept. 26 – 28. On Monday, Oct. 3, the ATM in the ticket lobby moves slightly, shifting a little bit south and around the corner.
Crane Picks: There are four crane picks that start Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. When cranes move equipment to the roof, areas below are blocked off for safety. This crane pick will impact the north ticket lobby and bag claim, closing the north elevator banks and carousels 9 and 10. Passengers needing to access baggage service offices on the north end of baggage claim will be re-routed outside, down the sidewalk and back into the building. There will be spotters on both levels redirecting travelers around the construction. We’ll keep you posted on the upcoming crane picks as dates are confirmed.

Celebrating PDX People with Swag, Sweets and Smiles
Every day, PDX People make sure visitors to our airport feel welcome. Whether they're offering a kind greeting, pointing the way to a correct checkpoint or making the perfect lunch for a traveler on the run, it's the friendly, knowledgeable and respectful service that continues to make PDX America's Best Airport.
Those daily efforts don't go unnoticed – it's why every year we dedicate a week to celebrating and uplifting the reason our airport is so beloved: YOU! From roadway to runway and concourse to construction, your hard work and commitment to upholding our values are appreciated. Thank you, PDX People!
In good news, there's a bonus event coming your way. Since mechanical issues disrupted the event on Thursday, Sept. 22, we'll host a re-do on Thursday, September 29 from 7 to 9:30 a.m. on the ramp near customs. Thank you to the PDX Maintenance team, OEG, Capers, Tillamook and Burgerville for stepping up to help troubleshoot and provide food in a crunch.
Be Knowledgeable with Safety Training Classes
Did you know there's a calendar of events on the PDX People website? It's the best way to keep track of upcoming learning opportunities available to all PDX employees. Check out these three important safety courses:
Civilian Response to Active Shooter (CRASE): On Thursday, Sept. 29, Captain T.J. Eriksen and Sergeant Jeremy Hepp will offer the CRASE course, where you’ll learn how to avoid an attacker, deny access to your location and defend yourself. Class size is limited, so sign up now. If you're interested in scheduling a private training for your employees, email jennifer.stacey@portofportland.com.
De-Escalation Training: The Port of Portland Police team is offering de-escalation training in October, which includes information on how to report an incident or situation to the Comm Center. Sergeant Diane Stockbridge will cover methods to help de-escalate a person in crisis and Michelle Arrowsmith will give a brief overview of what information to gather and communicate to dispatchers when calling in an incident. Register now for the 90-minute sessions on Tuesday, Oct. 4, or Thursday, Oct. 27 – space is limited!
PDX Lands at No. 7 on J.D. Power List
Long waits and shuttered amenities are irritating air travelers across the country, but PDX has kept its satisfaction rating at a steady cruising altitude. In fact, consumer sentiment monitor J.D. Power moved PDX up four spots to No. 7 for large airports in their 2022 North America Airport Satisfaction Study The annual rankings measure overall traveler satisfaction by examining six factors: terminal facilities; airport arrival/departure; baggage claim; security check; check-in/baggage check; and food, beverage and retail.
