Dear Parents and Families,
Greetings from the Tufts European Center in Talloires, where our summer 2019 season is off to a great start! Once again, it has been so wonderful to see our students here in this extraordinarily beautiful part of France, exploring a new culture and language, making the most of their classes, and learning so much about the world and about themselves!
For those of you who don’t know about the Tufts European Center in Talloires, I thought that it might be useful to provide you with a brief overview of the Center and the academic programs we offer. We have options for both university and high school students which we hope will intrigue you as you start to think about summer 2020!

Career Corner: Conversations with the Tufts Career Center

Summer Internships … and Beyond

A large portion of students (87% of the Class of ‘18) complete at least one internship during their four years at Tufts. These short-term work experiences are a wonderful way to develop career competencies, make connections with employers, and gain a sense of confidence in one’s work and career direction. As your student thinks about internships, keep in mind:
  • “Internship” can mean many things. Some internships fill the whole summer, while others take place over a single month. They can be full time, part time, paid or unpaid. Jumbos of all class years, particularly younger students, also gain exposure to career fields through research, volunteering, shadowing and even working on their own independent projects.
  • Your student has access to amazing internship advice from peers. The TIP (Tufts Internship Profiles) database features hundreds of internship profiles across all industries, searchable by type of internship, major, and paid/unpaid positions. Does your student already have an internship? We’re collecting summer 2019 TIPs for our database right now!
  • The Career Center supports students throughout the summer. Is your student trying to line up a career building activity for July, August, or beyond? Career Advisors are available (in person, via phone or Skype) to chat about finding opportunities.

Reminder: 2019-20 Health Insurance Waiver

The Health Insurance Waiver for the 2019-20 academic year is now available in SIS
All Tufts students are required to have health insurance (it’s a Massachusetts state law). Accordingly, all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled half time or more are automatically enrolled in and billed for the Student Health Insurance plan at Tufts. If, however, your student is covered by a separate policy through a U.S.-based insurance company that is comparable to the Student Health Insurance plan, they have the option of waiving their Student Health Insurance plan.
The waiver process is required every year a student is enrolled at Tufts. If your student is covered by a separate health insurance policy for 2019-20 and would like to waive the Student Health Insurance plan, they can do so between June 1 and July 31:

How to Waive the Student Health Insurance Plan

  • Have your student visit their SIS account.
  • Have your student click on the Bills & Balances tab to access the Health Insurance Waiver.

Complete the Health Insurance Waiver on Behalf of Your Student

If you would like to complete the Health Insurance Waiver on your student's behalf, they will need to provide you with "invited viewer" access to their SIS account. For more information about this process, please visit the Registrar's Invited Viewer Access webpage.
We also recommend that your student take a picture of their insurance card (front and back) and keep it on their phone.
For questions and additional information about health insurance, please contact:
