Strategic Practicum (SMPA 6220)

Students will design a strategy for an information and influence campaign. Research on issues and actors, identification of critical decision-making points and key constituencies, development of communication strategies more likely to achieve stated objectives of a campaign.
Strategic Practicum (SMPA 3358)

Students will work in small groups, research and develop full-scale plans for hypothetical, reality-based, strategic communication campaigns that test and apply theoretical advances in the field.
Science Communication (SMPA 3195)

This course teaches the writing, speaking, and visual presentation skills that help scientists communicate their work to the public, to the media, to fellow scientists, to NGOs, and to funding agencies. These skills translate naturally into writing for journals, for grants, and for conference presentations. The class is primarily intended for students in environmental studies, sustainability, and the natural sciences.
Media, Technology and Culture (SMPA 3476)

Students will learn concepts, principles, and socio-political implications of new and changing media and related technologies. The course will focus on the intersection of new technologies and the anthropology of everyday life, in particular self-governance, policy development, cultural rupture and cohesion, the tension between national security and individual privacy rights, and First Amendment issues.
