Welcome to the October edition of the Warrior Family Association e-newsletter. Earlier this month, we celebrated Homecoming and Family weekend. Friday night featured our President’s Dinner where we celebrated our Building A Century of Excellence comprehensive campaign. We announced that we have raised $27 million over the last four years, exceeding our goal of $26,235,000! The room was filled with many of our supporters and benefactors—including faculty, staff, students, alumni, community leaders and business partners. We are so thankful for the many generous people who help Indiana Tech provide scholarships to our students, facilities and equipment for our student-athletes, new science and engineering laboratories and even a residence hall, as we expand our amazing campus. Many of our longtime alumni were engineering majors and they visit campus every homecoming weekend. They are continually impressed with the expansion of the Zollner Engineering Center.
On Saturday, Karl and I attended many events throughout the day. We spent time with alumni and current students by attending all of our alumni sporting events held during the day. At night, we attended our Athletic Hall of Fame banquet, which featured the induction of two standout players and two teams from Indiana Tech’s long athletics legacy: Brandon Alger, a pitcher from 2010 through 2012 who was drafted by the San Diego Padres; DeNisha Gray, who was a four-year standout on the women’s basketball program during the early 2000s and still holds the records for most steals in a single game (11), in a season (128) and over a career (315); and the 2013 men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams, who each won an NAIA national championship—both of which were firsts for Indiana Tech.

Last, but certainly not least, we recently celebrated the overall success of Indiana Tech's athletics program. The program was awarded the prestigious Learfield Director’s Cup as the best athletics program in academic year 2022-23 of the 250 colleges and universities in the NAIA. Indiana Tech joined Stanford University (NCAA Division 1), Grand Valley State University (NCAA Division 2) and Johns Hopkins University (NCAA Division 3) that were also Learfield winners of their respective divisions last year. The award is given to the athletics program that achieves the greatest combined results in national tournaments and competition among its top sports.

Help Indiana Tech Crush Hunger (and the competition)
The 9th annual CRUSH HUNGER campaign is here!
Between Oct. 23 and Nov. 10, eight area colleges and universities will participate in a friendly competition to raise food and funds for hunger relief in partnership with Community Harvest Food Bank. Participants include reigning champion University of Saint Francis, as well as Huntington University, Indiana Tech, Indiana University Fort Wayne, Ivy Tech, Manchester University, Purdue University Fort Wayne and Trine University. With a goal to raise 125,000 total pounds before the competition ends, canned goods and funding can be donated to support each school’s chances of bringing home the traveling trophy for 2023.
Last year, Indiana Tech finished fifth behind Huntington, PFW, Manchester and Saint Francis with a total of 9,345 pounds of food! This year, we aim to move up in the overall standings and beat our total from last year.
Use the secure link unique to Indiana Tech to donate online. Every $1 donated counts as four (4) pounds of food! You can also drop off canned/non-perishable food in the donation barrels around campus.

Go, Warriors! Learfield Cup Celebration
Before the women's volleyball game vs. Lawrence Tech on Sept. 29, we celebrated the tremendous success of Indiana Tech's athletic teams during 2022-23 school year. As noted above, Tech secured the prestigious NACDA Learfield Directors’ Cup, signifying our status as the NAIA's top athletics program.
This accomplishment places us among an exclusive group of four Learfield Cup winners nationwide. Points for the award are earned based on team performance in championship events within their collegiate divisions. Indiana Tech topped all NAIA schools with 867.59 overall points, beating out second-place Marian University. This marks our first-ever Learfield Directors’ Cup victory. Additionally, Indiana Tech received the WHAC Commissioner’s Cup for being the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference's best program during the 2022-23 academic year.

FAFSA Update:
The Department of Education has delayed access to the 2024-25 FAFSA while it attempts to make the filing process easier. Although it has been available in recent years by Oct. 1, we are currently being told to expect the FAFSA to be available in December 2023. We are all waiting patiently for it to open and see the new, simplified process. Learn how to prepare for and stay informed about the FAFSA launch.

Final thoughts from a fellow mom
Karl and I just returned from a long weekend trip up to Traverse City, Michigan, for our 33rd wedding anniversary. Although the sun didn’t make an appearance, we had an amazing time filled with beautiful foliage, good food and shopping. And yes, Karl even bought a few things! We took our goldendoodle, Ruby, with us and she enjoyed being outside by the lake. I included a couple of pictures from our trip.
Nicholas and Thomas continue to do well. They seem to be enjoying their jobs, while still carving out some time for fun. They are planning to visit us in Fort Wayne over Thanksgiving, and I can’t wait to see them. As usual, we plan to be at the Galloping Gobbler, a four-mile fun run and walk, Thanksgiving Day morning. If you are in Fort Wayne that morning, please come and look for us. I will not be “galloping” with my boys, so look for me walking with Ruby at the end of the line!
