Many graduates have said that work-life balance is the most important factor in their career they would like to pursue. For a majority of graduates, work-life balance comes before salary, benefits, job security, and job location! For those seeking that balance currently or after graduation, here are a few tips to consider.
Determine an employer’s value of work-life balance. As you do your research on a potential employer, look out for employee resource groups that focus on helping their employees as human beings, not just for job performance.
Discuss balance with a supervisor. If you are seeking a healthy work-life balance in your current position, discuss your needs with your supervisor. It is best to prepare yourself with a list of helpful resources and needs before you ask your supervisor to meet.
Learn to take a guilt-free vacation. Many folks struggle to use paid time off, whether it be the guilt of leaving your colleagues to cover your work or the stress of returning to hundreds of emails. You can learn to eliminate the guilt by considering a healthy work-life balance part of your job.
