Ken Tucker from Alaska Airlines was nominated as the winner of this week PDX People.
Ken Tucker Inspires Smiles with Miles
Ken Tucker (he/him) with Alaska Airlines was nominated by fellow Alaska Airlines employee, Michael Higgins.
"A person, grieving a loss of a family member, was attempting to get a ticket home, but was short on funds. Eventually, the man arrived at our counter and Ken waited on him.
He told Ken about his loss and that he had no money for a ticket. He was grieving and desperate to get to his family and was asking for help. Ken explored options for the man. When it became obvious that there were none, Ken – out of his own Alaska Airlines' mileage bank – purchased a ticket for the man so he could get back home.
This is the character of our Ken. If there ever was a kinder soul, I don't know who it could be. I truly believe that this brand of generosity and caring should be recognized on a grand scale. Thank you for being you, Ken. It's an honor to get to work with you."

What’s New with PDX Next: Oscar Road and Gate Closures, December Forum, Employee Parking
Baggage Claim: Baggage carousel 2 will close on Wednesday, Jan. 3, through the end of March, and a temporary wall will be in place around the carousel. During this time, Alaska Airlines will use carousels 3 and 6.
Additionally, the south TSA oversized drop-off location will move south of baggage carousel 2 between the Smarte Carte station and the Alaska baggage service office. In about a month, when the temporary wall footprint is reduced, it will move back to its current location on the other side of carousel 2.
South Oscar Road: South Oscar Road will close Tuesday, Dec. 26, until early August to facilitate construction of the new Central Baggage Resolution Area (CBRA). PAC and Port of Portland maintenance will use alternate routes during this closure. When the new TSA break room opens in January, crews will add signage along the routes to the break room to assist TSA staff.
Gate D6: Gate D6 will close Tuesday, Jan. 2, until early August for concrete work on the east end of the alley.
December ForumMark your calendars for Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 10:30 a.m. to get the inside scoop on construction at PDX. Jen Reynolds from the Port of Portland along with Pat Bifone and Bri Leiblie of Hoffman-Skanska share the latest construction updates and answer your questions about PDX Next in just 30 minutes. If you'd like to join the meeting, email PDX People Communications before Tuesday, Dec. 26, for the meeting link.
Employee Parking Lot: A reminder that we're enhancing safety and security in the PDX employee parking lot. Impacts should be minimal as shuttle bus service will continue to operate on the normal six-to-eight-minute schedule. However, it will affect the shuttle route and some shelters will be closed.
  • Shelters A and B will close Dec. 26 through 28, and Jan. 23 and 24.
  • Shelters E, F, and G will close January 2 through 4, and Jan. 25 and 26
  • Charging stations will be offline on Wednesday, Jan. 24, and Thursday, Jan. 25.

Missionary Chocolate will have a pop-up shop at PDX this 2024.
Meet PDX's Next Pop-Up: Missionary Chocolates
"Dairy-free, nut-free, vegan truffles," sure is a mouthful…but, in the case of Missionary Chocolates, it’s a tasty one. Portlanders have been flocking to Missionary Chocolates since 2008, and now visitors to PDX from all over the world will get to enjoy their sweet, all-natural treats. Dr. Melissa Berry and Josie Hartman have big plans for their PDX pop-up shop, arriving in May 2024. Expect Melissa’s delicious truffles (the original Missionary Chocolates item), recent favorites like chocolate-covered potato chips, and, of course, the same warm welcome Missionary Chocolates is known for. Learn more about the two new pop-ups coming soon to PDX.
