April is National Volunteer Month and Volunteer Week is 4/18-4/24
We would like to thank all of our volunteers (staff, committees and boards, members & community) for their volunteer service to support the YMCA of Greater Springfield and the community’s needs. Their service helps to ensure that everyone is welcome, safe and supported at the Y allowing us to fulfill our mission to serve greater Springfield by providing programs that promote lifelong personal growth and the balanced development of spirit, mind, and body for all.
DISCOVERY
The YMCA of Greater Springfield branches (Downtown Springfield YMCA at Tower Square and Scantic Valley YMCA) are advised by a group of non-compensated, volunteers from the community. The Y seeks diverse individuals to represent the communities we serve.  Board members can serve 3 year terms; attend monthly Advisory Board meetings, attend the annual meeting; make a personal commitment to the annual campaign; attend and support branch activities; and provide introductions to others in the community who can support the Y’s mission in serving the community.

IMPACT
Meet Bailey.  Bailey has been taking swim lessons at the Scantic YMCA.

"The swimming lessons at the Scantic YMCA have been great.  The instructors are really patient and try to make it fun for the kids while still helping them learn."

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN IMPACT
The Heritage Club is a special group of YMCA of Greater Springfield friends who help perpetuate the YMCA’s influence on future generations of youth, individuals and families.  Becoming a member requires a commitment which now, or in the future will add to the YMCA of Greater Springfield’s Endowment Fund.

The Heritage Club is composed of an individual/couple, estate, or organization-represented by up to two individuals- who notify the YMCA of Greater Springfield that they have provided for a future planned gift or an outright gift of at least $15,000 (which can be spread over up to 5 years for payment) to the Endowment Fund. This gift must not preclude the YMCA of Greater Springfield to be eligible for other funding opportunities from said organization.

In recognition, you will receive an exclusive Heritage Club pin & certificate.  In addition, members in attendance will be publicly recognized at the annual meeting and invited to Heritage Club & YMCA events.

Meet Stan, a member of The Heritage Club!
“I have been a member of the YMCA since I was five (5) years old when my father, who was an avid handball player, brought me to the Y and I became a member.  I am very appreciative of the fact that there were individuals at the time who were perpetuating the philosophy of the Y which gave me the opportunity to learn and enjoy swimming, attend summer camps and be involved in a whole host of activities that were available to me as a young child.  I have also been appreciative of the fact that someone made those opportunities available to me and I think that membership in the Heritage Club gives an individual a chance to help perpetuate our mission of not only body, mind and spirit, but also the opportunity to become acquainted with a cross section of our community which I think makes us better individuals.

I offer you the prospect of becoming a member of the Heritage Club and provide funding to the YMCA movement through your estate plan, be it life insurance of an outright gift upon your death or to make a pledge to the Y to be a payable over a period of years, knowing that your contribution will have a substantial effect on the betterment of not only the community, but upon the individuals who participate and come into the fold of the YMCA experience. Thank you”

Who, Where,
What, When & Why the Y
Who:  Theresa Jasmin

Where:  Big Y, Chief Financial Officer

What:  Board of Directors, Treasurer & Member YMCA of Greater Springfield

When: Theresa has been involved with the YMCA of Greater Springfield in one way or the other for the past 20 years.

Why the Y:  The YMCA has been an important part of my family's life for close to two decades now.  We started with swim lessons, grew up with summer league basketball, and continue to use the fitness center.  It was that connection to the Y that prompted me to become involved on the Board.  Since then, I've learned much more about the far-reaching impact that the YMCA has on its members and its communities.  I am truly inspired by the work of the organization, and I am impressed by the staff's can-do spirit and unwavering dedication to the mission.

I have been a member of the Finance committee during my entire tenure on the Board.  I have been encouraged to see the Y's steadily improving financial position, its strategic focus, and its exciting growth--all of which are allowing the Y to carry out its important work.  It has been a privilege to work alongside such an incredible team of staff and volunteers, who are making an indelible impact! “
