Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Happy New Year! In 2023, we launched our celebration of 150 Years of Engineering at Notre Dame with a timeline of historic achievements. We wrapped up the year with an Edison Lecture delivered by our very own Dava Newman, ‘86 (ND) ‘92 (MIT) Apollo Program Professor at MIT and Director of the Media Lab. Her presentation Exploration for All: The Infinite to Spaceship Earth, shared a vision for the future that inspired us all.

Today, we approach the new year with a renewed sense of purpose for continuing to find engineering paths toward a better — healthier, safer and more inclusive — world for all. Our community is thriving, with a record number of faculty and graduate students winning prestigious research awards and grants and a record number of admitted students indicating their intent to pursue engineering as a major.

I am extraordinarily proud of our Notre Dame Engineering community. I hope you will enjoy these top stories from 2023 and that you join us in anticipating a banner year to come.
