With winter break upon us, I want to take a moment to encourage you to reflect on your hard work and dedication this semester. You've navigated projects and papers, research questions and the creative process, all bringing you closer to achieving your academic and professional goals. While the road to a graduate degree is not always smooth, the mastery of new ideas and creation of new knowledge is incredibly rewarding. I am honored to be a part of this journey with you at UT Austin.

University Health Services University Health Services will be closed from Monday, Dec. 23 to Thursday, Jan. 2, and the Counseling and Mental Health Center will be closed from Monday, Dec. 23 to Friday, Jan. 3, for the winter break. During this period, you can still access 24/7 support through the following services:
- 24/7 Nurse Advice Line: Call 512-475-6877 for health advice and guidance from registered nurses.
- 24/7 Crisis Line: For immediate crisis counseling, dial 512-471-2255.
- TimelyCare: For non-crisis mental health.

The Brodnax Recreation Fund is focused on expanding access to RecSports for students who may face financial barriers to participating in programs.
They are currently accepting applications for spring 2025 funding with a priority application deadline of Friday, Dec. 20. Students can apply to have any one of the following programs fully funded for next term:

Canvas Crash Course for GRAs & TAs
Learn the ins and outs of Canvas from course set up to final grade submission. This workshop is designed to help Teaching Assistants create and maintain well-organized courses; communicate with students; provide feedback and grades using SpeedGrader; and explore features such as automated late policies and grade posting policies. Graduate Writing Services at the University Writing Center is hosting its first monthly Graduate Writing Retreat for Spring 2025 on Saturday, Jan. 25, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. in the University Writing Center in the PCL.
This is a great opportunity to bring a few friends and make some progress on your writing projects in a quiet, distraction-free space. They provide coffee, snacks and (optional) mini consultations throughout the retreat. Please register for the event through Eventbrite if you plan to attend! Register

The CTL’s 2025 spring Teaching Preparation Series schedule is now available! Every semester, the Center for Teaching and Learning and campus partners offer a series of 14-16 workshops for graduate student instructors to learn about, observe, practice, receive feedback on and reflect upon classroom teaching techniques. Join the online and in-person sessions to learn about teaching and earn a certificate.
