| Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate, is a classical composer, citizen of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma and is dedicated to the development of American Indian classical composition.
His Washington Post review states that “Tate is rare as an American Indian composer of classical music. Rarer still is his ability to effectively infuse classical music with American Indian nationalism.” Tate’s recent commissions include his bassoon concerto, Ghost of the White Deer, for Dallas Symphony
Orchestra, his Chickasaw oratorio, Misha' Sipokni' (The Old Ground), for Canterbury Voices and Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Standing Bear: A Ponca Indian Cantata for Hildegard Center for the Arts. His music was recently featured on the HBO series Westworld.

A Motto and a Way of Life

It may be the Rotary motto, but for me, it also defines what I’ve always believed is at the heart of what makes us uniquely Oklahoman.
I had the privilege of being a television journalist in Oklahoma for a decade before I became an attorney and ran for office. I loved telling stories on the news about people I met from Oklahoma City to every small town you only hear about – at least if you’re part of Club 29 and live in the OKC metro – during tornado season (cue the seasonal catch phrases of “multiple vortices,” “Doppler radar,” “supercell,” and “mesocyclone” accompanied with sparkly ties and shaky dashboard camera video and on-the-scene reporters drenched in rain gear you learn quickly are not born and bred in the Sooner state.
I had a front row seat to the biggest events in Oklahoma, and most often I found the kindness of neighbors helping neighbors, communities coming together after tragedy, and the spirit of giving back to the state that made us. We’re people of strength, faith, grit, an unmatched work ethic, and who demonstrate service to others. But I learned who we are as Oklahomans long before I had a college degree and a press pass. I grew up in Bethany with a family that made social justice and community service a part of everyday life. I learned from having a mother as an educator that investing in children is our best shot at securing a future we all believe in, where you can be successful no matter your zip code or what you look like.

Service Saturday at Rotary Community Playground

Rotary Club 29 Volunteers are needed to plant flowers into 4 or 5 raised flower beds, that will be constructed ahead of time. Each bed is approximately 15-20 ft. long and 4 ft wide. There also are a small number of flower pots to be re-potted and distributed around the lovely school property. These planters are a part of the new Rotary Community Playground funded by our 20-21 Rotary OnePledge.
The address is 1105 N.W. 45th in the Horace Mann school building. The entrance is on the west side of the building close to the parking lot (NOT the entrance labelled 1105 NW 45th)
Each rotarian should plan on bringing your own work gloves, hand tools for gardening, maybe some bug spray, and wear your favorite hat or visor. Most of the work will be outside. Masks for virus protection will not be required, but are a matter of your personal preference.

Lost and Found
Several items have been turned in to the rotary office as items left at Rotary meetings. Several umbrellas, gloves, sunglasses. These items will be at the 7-27 rotary meeting. If you think you have lost an umbrella, or other item, please contact the rotary office to identify the lost item. Items not claimed will be donated to St. Luke's.

Perfect Attenders
For those who have perfect attendance, attendance tracking started June 1, 2021. Signing into the livestream will count as an in-person meeting. Video Makeups will be allowed, 2 per quarter.
Starting June 1, you must either attend in-person, watch the livestream and sign -in the online form, makeup the meeting at another Rotary Club, attend a committee meeting, attend a Club 29 breakfast, watch the video (2 per quarter allowed) or otherwise makeup the meeting if you wish to maintain perfect attendance. If you have any questions, please contact the rotary office.
