2024 Golf Season Update from Christine Shahinian

Dear Bayview Members,

Bayview’s golf season is well underway, and summer is about to begin. The Golf Committee is pleased to provide members with some important updates to our golf course and our extensive event offerings that will make your experience even more enjoyable.

Significant changes took place, within the golf committee, in the fall of 2023 to allow us to have a more robust Event Guide ready for April 1, 2024. All events were assigned a coordinator, and dates, formats, pricing and themes were determined over the off season. There has been a substantial increase in participation due to the changes that were made. Many of our events have been sold out and early sign up is now a must for members who wish to participate in our excellent selection of men’s, women’s, mixed and junior events. To help improve pace of play on the course the decision was made to change the spacing of tee times from 9 minutes to 10 minutes. The USGA and Golf Canada have excellent research showing that tee times spaced at least 10 minutes apart leads to improved pace of play on the course. The recent change to the 1st Hole, coupled with these new tee time intervals have shown an improvement to our pace of play and consistency throughout the day.

Bayview is a busy course and there are days that will be slower than our expected play time of 4 hours and 12 minutes. Please keep up with the group in front of you and pick up your ball if you have reached your maximum allowable strokes for any given hole. 

 The golf course conditions are spectacular this season with a big thank you going to Mike MacGillivray, our Director of Agronomy and Grounds, and his hard-working team. They spend countless hours each day maintaining all aspects of the golf course in order to provide members with an amazing on-course experience.  The willows around the pond at the 3rd hole have been heavily pruned to avoid limb breakage and the heavy brush next to the 5th tee box has been removed allowing more sun on the tee deck to improve grass growth. The greens have been in excellent condition this season and the initial surge of rough growth is starting to lean out. The paving down the path to the 10th tee has been delayed due to recent heavy rain but is expected to be completed within the next 7-10 days. The rain also led to a delayed start to our 1st tee and new practice area. The final completion date of the project will not be affected but the new tee decks will not be ready before mid-July. As a reminder to all golfers, please rake bunkers, replace divots and repair ball marks.

Our juniors are an important part of Bayview, and our golf team has many junior programs and camps available to help develop their golf skills. Juniors also participate in interclub play and a junior champion will be crowned in July. Please check out our summer camps and clinics

It's only June but Championship Weekend is only 2 months away. We encourage all golfers to sign up for this exciting 2-day event on August 17 and 18 with a complimentary lunch by the pool for all participants after Sunday play. To hone your skills, check out our new men’s bootcamp or our Mission 36 for women. Don’t miss the premier event of the season. Be part of the excitement when we crown our 2024 golf champions.
