APRIL 1, 2021

Dear Members,
I am pleased to report that AzLTA priority legislation Senate Bill 1377 (civil liability; public health pandemic) passed the House and Senate this week, and is on the Governor’s desk awaiting his signature.
We applaud members of the Arizona Legislature who stood together to advance these common-sense liability protections for all businesses, frontline healthcare workers, nonprofits, educational institutions and many others.  Also, a special thank you to Senator Vince Leach who championed this important bill.
I also want to thank our members who were actively involved in this effort. This bill is a great step toward recovery and a big win for our industry.
AzLTA continues to collaborate with our industry coalition and local leaders about ensuring that federal relief funds are used to support our industry. We will need each of you engaged in these outreach efforts to the Arizona Legislature, Governor’s Office, and local mayors. Be on the lookout for future action alerts on this topic.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out should you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Kim Grace Sabow
President & CEO

THANK YOU STEVE MOORE
This week, our good friend Steve Moore officially retired after an illustrious career, serving as President and CEO of Visit Phoenix for 19 years.
Steve has always provided insight, counsel, advice and a good laugh any time we needed it. Over the course of his tenure, Steve was intimately involved in many of the efforts that have turned Phoenix into the visitor, meeting and event destination it is today.
It has been an absolute pleasure working with and learning from one of the most iconic leaders in the industry. Thank you Steve for your commitment and service to this industry, and congratulations on an incredible career!

THE FUTURE OF ARIZONA DEMOCRACY: IS ARIZONA'S INITIATIVE PROCESS RIPE FOR REFORM?
The Arizona Chamber Foundation’s Junior Fellows program and Arizona State University’s School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership are hosting an important forum regarding Arizona’s initiative process.
In this conversation, you will hear from state and national leaders about Arizona’s right to citizen initiative, its history and purpose, how it has been used since its creation and consider whether some of its features make it more likely to be used by organized labor rather than ordinary citizens.
The discussion will be led by former U.S. Senator for Arizona Jon Kyl, with an incredible lineup of panelists. Please find event details and registration below.

Date: Monday, April 12, 2021
