Thurston Schaff
Thurston Schaff Goes the Extra Mile for Customer Service
Thurston Schaff (he/him) with SP Plus Corporation, was nominated by a PDX traveler.
"My daughter wasn’t planning to leave her car at PDX, but after her scheduled ride didn’t show up – and after being awake for 24 hours – she had no choice. She arrived at the airport with her family for an early international flight and quickly parked in the short-term lot. Before boarding, she managed to text me the floor number.
I went to the airport to try and find her car and move it out of the lot. I quickly realized how overwhelming that task would be. That’s when I spotted an SP Plus vehicle and asked the driver if he had any advice.
Thurston not only had tips, he also had experience and was willing to help. He drove me around the garage again and again, cheerfully offering suggestions and encouragement along the way. And yes – we found the car!
Thurston went above and beyond to assist me, and I’m incredibly grateful for his professional and gracious help. He is truly an asset to the PDX parking team."

Delta Partners with Shell and the Port for First Commercial-Scale SAF Uplift at PDX
Delta Air Lines, in collaboration with Shell and the Port of Portland, recently delivered Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into the PDX fuel system for the first time. This achievement expands Delta’s SAF footprint and positions PDX to capitalize on the continued growth of SAF. The batch of more than 400,000 gallons of blended SAF was made in the U.S. from waste-derived feedstock was delivered to the airport via barge, truck, and pipeline.
"We're excited about this step toward bringing SAF to PDX. It’s a move that can help improve local air quality and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions, which is great news for our communities," Port of Portland Chief Aviation Officer Dan Pippenger said. "We're looking forward to working with our partners to make sure state and local policies support development of the infrastructure and market needed to bring SAF here on a larger scale – and unlock all of the health and environmental benefits it offers."

Sign Up Now for PDX Lifesavers AED/CPR Classes
In July, Justin Taylor – a Port of Portland deckhand on the Dredge Oregon – was the first person to arrive at the scene of a motorcycle crash. He immediately jumped into action, using the face shield he received in a PDX Lifesavers class to perform CPR until help arrived.
Would you know how to respond in a similar situation? Build your confidence and skills with a CPR/AED class led by our in-house Portland Airport Fire and Rescue experts. Classes are limited in size, so check with your manager for permission and register for Friday, Sept. 19, before it fills up.

During fire season, the Portland Airport Fire and Rescue team stands ready to respond, helping communities in Oregon and beyond.
Late on Friday, Aug. 22, airport firefighters Dustin Hicks and Jason Zollner headed to Sisters, Ore., to help fight the Flat Fire. They helped with the initial attack, helping to save several homes, then moved to night patrol working on hot spots and mopping up areas to keep them protected. Thanks in part to their work, as of Sunday, Sept. 7, the fire was contained and Level 1 evacuations were dropped.
Throughout their deployment, Dustin and Jason met many local homeowners and members of the public who were extremely grateful for our crews’ contributions and the efforts of all firefighters who helped keep the community safe.
P.S. Be sure to follow @flypdxfire to stay updated on all the things that make our firefighters the best of the best!
