2019 Alumni Service Award Recipient
The Alumni Service Award is presentedĀ to an alumnus or alumna for demonstrating outstanding service to Grand Valley and the Alumni Association. This year, the award recipient is Emily Miller, ā14, an elementary art teacher at Rockford Public Schools in Rockford, Michigan.Ā Miller dedicates her time and passion to her alma mater by regularly volunteering at or attending Alumni Association events, making charitable contributions to Grand Valley, and being a steward of the university for future and current students and alumni.

Become a Leader Within the Alumni Association Looking for a way to get involved? Consider joining the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Board members act as representatives for the Alumni Association, which helps alumni stay informed, get involved, give back, and have Laker pride. Applications for the Board of Directors are due no later thanĀ June 30, 2019.
The Young Alumni Council (YAC) is another great way to make a difference. The YAC is the voice of GVSU young alumni, creating and planning multiple events throughout the year. Applications for the YAC are due no later thanĀ May 31, 2019.

Mars: Astronomy and Culture Exhibition
Mars: Astronomy and CultureĀ brings together photographs, drawings, movie posters, book covers, and video projections. In doing so, it connects the recent scientific images of Mars to the entire history of photography of the red planet, and to the drawings by famous astronomers that preceded the development of photography. This exhibition is available through June 21, 2019 at the West Wall Gallery in the Eberhard Center.

Waves of Good Wishes About 1,000 "waves of wishes" were displayed on the library windows, wishing students good luck during finals week. Donors, alumni, faculty, and staff membersĀ wrote words of encouragement on the waves to show support for students as they studied for final exams. Thank you to all who participated and encouraged our students!

Women's Golf Wins 2019 GLIAC Tournament Championship The Grand Valley women's golf team took home the 2019 GLIAC Championship on April 19 after defeating Wayne State and Davenport in match-play. The Lakers dominated the first two days of stroke-play, winning that portion of the event by 46-strokes after they fired rounds of 299 and 291 to finish 14-over.

Lakers to Host Midwest Region 1 Tournament as #1 Seed The Grand Valley State softball team has once again been named the #1 seed in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Tournament and will host the Midwest 1 Regional Tournament this weekend starting Thursday, May 9 with the championship game scheduled for Saturday, May 11.Ā

Club Sport Highlight: 24th Annual Don Lubbers Cup The 24th Annual Don Lubbers Cup was held April 5-6 with two great days of racing some of the quickest teams in the midwest. GVSU welcomed the Univerisity ofĀ Michigan, Case Western, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Adrian, and North Park University in over 45 races throughout the weekend. Grand Valley State was the Women's Team Points Winner.

| Lynn āChickā Blue, ā86, has dedicated her life and her 50-year career at Grand Valley to enriching the lives of students. Her dedication was celebrated on April 9 with the naming of the Lynn M. Blue Connection.Ā The Blue Working Family Endowed Scholarship assists Michigan high school graduates who face financial barriers attend and finish college.
