The Practice of Hygge"You might have heard about the word Hygge (hyoo·guh) before but do you know the true meaning of the word and its origin? Hygge is a Danish term and, while it is said to have no direct translation to English, it is best described as a quality of cosiness and comfortableness that creates a feeling of contentment, relaxation, or wellbeing. This centuries old term derives from the Norwegian term 'Hugga' meaning to comfort, a word that is also related to the English word 'Hug.' Hygge can be seen as a 'hug' to yourself and a way to find comfort and cosiness to get a feeling of wellbeing."
To learn more about Hygge and ways you can practice it, visit the PDX CampusWell.

Politicians in key electoral states like Arizona, Texas, Michigan and Florida are moving forward with restrictive voting bills despite national outcry against a similar law just passed in Georgia. In Arizona, pending bills would repeal the state's permanent early voting list and require identification for absentee ballots. In Texas, lawmakers want to ban drive-through voting and bar election officials from sending unsolicited absentee ballot applications. Michigan is considering a slate of nearly 40 changes to the state's voting laws. In light of this national news, I am even more proud of PSU's student leaders in ASPSU, who have consistently modeled those leadership characteristics that are most important in a thriving democracy--transparency, careful listening and amplification of all stakeholder voices and expanding, not restricting, participation. Please help remind students that campaigning for this year's ASPSU election begins April 5th and polls open April 12th!
