Listening Session Scheduled for Presidential SearchThe Presidential Search Advisory Committee has scheduled a listening session to hear from alumni and community members about the qualities desired in the next president of Grand Valley State University. 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award RecipientSince graduating in '88 with a B.S. in Broadcasting, Angie Crouch's career has taken her far. An Emmy award winning journalist who reports for KNBC TV in Los Angeles, Crouch has been recognized for her coverage of Barack Obama’s Inauguration, the death investigation of Michael Jackson, the earthquake in Haiti, and Hurricane Isaac in New Orleans. Crouch also takes pride in being of service to the community through her weekly series Life Connected, where she profiles people who have overcome adversity and are using their experiences to help others.

2018 Outstanding Educator Award RecipientBarbara Hooper, ’92 & ’12, assistant professor in Grand Valley’s Kirkhof College of Nursing (KCON), began teaching at GV in 2008 after 16 years of experience in medical-surgical nursing and management in Detroit. Now, Hooper is a well-known professor, described as "one of KCON's finest." Having a strong foundation in the nursing field has been critical to Hooper’s success as an educator. She weaves her work-related experiences into her lectures and uses storytelling to engage her students in conversation.

Alumni in 10Daniel Abbott, '12, would describe his time at Grand Valley as a "life changing experience." A non-traditional student at the time, Abbott felt accepted by his fellow Lakers and fell in love with his studies in creative writing, more specifically fiction and creative nonfiction. After graduation, Abbott attended Vermont College of Fine Arts where he earned his MFA. Abbott is now a novelist working on publishing his first book.

Alumna Reporter who Broke Nassar Sex Abuse Story Speaks About Investigation at Campus Event
Marisa Kwiatkowski, '05, was one of three IndyStar reporters, along with Tim Evans and Mark Alesia, who broke the USA Gymnastics sexual abuse story that led to the conviction of sports physician Larry Nassar. Kwiatkowski shared anecdotes and insights about the investigation during a March 26 event on the Pew Campus.

Blue Announces Retirement From GV After 50 YearsWhen Lynn "Chick" McNamara Blue was hired at Grand Valley State University as a clerk typist in 1968, she was put on a six-month probation. Her performance must have been acceptable because she is now a vice president and will break the record for the longest-serving employee when she passes the 50-year mark in September.

Longtime Head of Facilities RetiredJames Moyer, associate vice president for Facilities Planning and member of the President's Cabinet, retired on March 31. During Moyer's 22-year career at Grand Valley, he managed the development of more than 4 million square feet of expansion at the university, including major building projects at the Allendale and Grand Rapids campuses and centers in Muskegon.

Lakers Take Two From Tiffin FridayThe Grand Valley State Lakers swept the Tiffin Dragons in a doubleheader of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action Friday (3/30) afternoon at the GVSU Baseball Field. Grand Valley State won game one, 7-1, and game two, 9-0, for a pair of convincing victories.
