April 2022 UP Parent and Family Newsletter
April 2022
Hello Pilot Families!
From their first day on The Bluff through these final days of the semester, you have entrusted UP with the education of your student's head, hands and heart and so much more. UP students continually show grit, perseverance, and–thankfully–the flexibility required to navigate more obstacles than anyone could have imagined back when you first purchased those twin extra long sheets for their dorm room. Pilot Parents, especially our parents of graduating seniors, we salute you–it is a privilege to partner with you during this college journey.
With Pilot pride,

SUPPORT YOUR STUDENT DURING FINALS
Finals are next week! As your student heads into their last week of classes and prepares for finals, the Shepard Academic Resource Center shares these timely tips for supporting them this week.
COUNTDOWN TO COMMENCEMENT
Parents of graduating seniors, there is a dedicated website for everything you need to know about UP Commencement, but be sure to review the 2022 Commencement email and the Know Before You Go page prior to arriving to any Commencement ceremonies as they provide helpful information as you and your student prepare for their big event. Share your pride with some fresh new digital downloads for creating banners, lawn signs, photo props and social media images.
GREAT NEWS FOR FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN PAYMENTS
The Biden administration is again extending the pause on federally-held student loan payments and interest accrual, this time keeping the benefit in effect through August 31. The announcement follows the White House’s continued extension of the loan moratorium on student loan payments and interest accrual set in place at the outset of the pandemic in March 2020. Click here for more details.
ON-CAMPUS STUDENTS: SUMMER STORAGE, RECYCLING AND DONATIONS
Students who are returning to on-campus living next fall have the option to store larger belongings in their residence halls’ trunk room. Space is limited and based on how far away you live. Students may contact their Hall Director to learn more.

There will be donation boxes in each residence hall for clean, usable items no longer needed. These items are free to any students who need them. Unwanted items will be donated to local charities. Dumpsters will be available in each quad.

Students must be out of their rooms by noon on Friday, April 29 and must check out with a hall staff member to ensure their room is clean and empty, and to turn in their room key. Any improper check outs or lost keys may result in a fee that will appear on individual student accounts next month.
RESPONSE FROM PILOTSGIVE
PilotsGive, UP’s 24 hours of alumni, friends, parents, students, faculty and staff coming together to support all areas of campus, was a major success thanks to you! This year 2,169 donors made gifts totaling over $1 million for UP students. Thank you! Together we all add UP!
