Hello and welcome to another edition of the CHDCM newsletter!
I hope that all of you reading these words had a wonderful Halloween weekend, and that your Monday has started off well, despite this gloomy New Jersey weather!
Of course, the start of November not only signals the impending end of the semester, but also the close of election season. As Msgr. Reilly’s message to the community noted, the democratic process is sacred to our community and nation, and the right to vote is something that was, for many, the result of struggle, sacrifice, and advocacy….not something to be taken lightly! Unless you’ve already voted through mail-in or early voting, I hope that tomorrow all of us exercise the democratic right to cast our ballot. As I note every year at this time, I always think of our College community, and especially our students, when I enter the booth. If our democracy is to remain vibrant and productive, our nation needs educated, innovative, and engaged artists, journalists, media, PR, and communication professionals, content creators, PreK-12 teachers, school principals and superintendents, therapists and counselors, learning technology professionals, designers, advocates, activists, and more….every single one of us who falls under the umbrella of the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media. I look forward to seeing the future that you all, collectively, help bring into being—starting with tomorrow’s election!
As we enter November, I also want to once again thank all of you who led, attended, and participated in our monthlong series of events tied to the new CHDCM One College, One Exhibition initiative. There’s a great story on the launch below, but here I want to express my sincere gratitude for the enthusiasm, creativity, and engagement that the CHDCM community brought to these events. As I attended each event, I was truly proud of our community, and of all that we’ve accomplished together in the College’s first two years. The close of the exhibition left me a bit sad, but also excited for the future—so: THANK YOU!!
And with that pre-Thanksgiving expression of gratitude, let’s kick off this edition of the CHDCM newsletter! I invite you to read on and check out the amazing work that our community is doing—and the accolades that our people are receiving. Otherwise, stay warm, good luck with the work of this busy period of the semester, and have a great two weeks!

Counseling Psychology Student Association (CPSA)
The Counseling Psychology Student Association (CPSA) was established in the 1990s. CPSA works to provide opportunities for students to enhance their training and professional development. Students also use the organization to engage in advocacy efforts and promote social justice through its various committees. CPSA is focused on bridging and building internal community within the department while finding ways to engage in social justice, advocacy and research initiatives.
CPSA also provides multicultural research to Counseling Psychology Ph.D. students through the Paul T. Hartman Fund for Multicultural Research. They also host a yearly multicultural celebration, celebrating diversity among the students and their research.
CPSA is dedicated to supporting students in their advocacy and care for clients, especially in light of recent policy changes. The organization fosters community and mutual support among students while emphasizing respectful language, awareness of policy impacts, and the importance of staying informed about immigration, relocation, and broader mental health industry developments.
