Bridging the Gap (BTG) is thrilled to announce the call for a 2024–25 BTG Fellowship focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, generously funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
We are dedicated to prioritizing the promotion of equity and inclusion in academic scholarship, supporting scholars who disproportionately face backlash for engaging in public scholarship, and to combating the barriers to entry faced by underrepresented scholars – including people of color, scholars from the Global South, women and gender non-conforming individuals, first-generation students, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and others – in conducting and disseminating policy-relevant research.
In this spirit, we are pleased to continue the Bridging the Gap Fellowship focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives into the 2024–25 cycle. The selected BTG Fellow will join the BTG team on a part-time basis as a crucial voice and partner in helping develop strategies for our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, from our programming to research priorities. The fellow will also help develop initiatives to support our current and future alumni community.
In terms of specific duties, the fellow will:
-Serve as lead for at least one of our virtual programming events, with potential topics ranging from DEI in the field, strategies for addressing discriminatory obstacles faced by scholars pursuing policy-relevant research, or other related issues.
-Help BTG leadership craft outreach messaging and target potential new audiences for our programming and the work of scholars in our network.
--Participate in application review for BTG professional development programs.
Moderate discussions about diversity, equity, and inclusion among members of our scholar network on various platforms, including pointing to resources and opportunities for engagement.
-Join monthly leadership team calls.

New Voices Workshop: Atrocity Prevention
On September 28 and 29, 2023, Bridging the Gap and the Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum brought together an invited group of scholars and practitioners to the New Voices in National Security workshop, “Atrocity Prevention: Tools and Strategies.” Scholars Anjali Dayal, Meghan Garrity, Daniel Krcmaric, Omar McDoom, Rhiannon Neilsen, and Gary Uzonyi discussed policy questions related to different aspects of atrocity prevention strategies, tools, and multilateral cooperation around preventive action. The event also featured a keynote conversation with Anne Witkowsky, Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations at the U.S. Department of State.
The workshop was convened by BTG Senior Advisor Bruce Jentleson and BTG Co-Director Jordan Tama, and HMM SSCPG Research Director Lawrence Woocher, HMM SSCPG Associate Research Fellow Daniel Solomon, and HMM SSCPG Research Assistant Tallan Donine with support from New Voices Rapporteur Laurel Holley.
