Alumni in 10 Interview: Ricardo Benavidez '14
Ricardo Benavidez, '14, earned his B.S. in history and public & nonprofit administration while at Grand Valley. He now works as the Executive Assistant for Community Relations in the Office of the President at GVSU and is working towards his master of public administration degree. His fondest memories at Grand Valley are those he spent in the marching band and on student senate. Read on to learn more about Ricardo's Laker Effect!

See Research in Action at GVSU
The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship at GVSU cordially invites alumni to attend the 23rd annual Student Scholars Day on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. Poster and oral presentations, panel sessions, fine arts exhibits, and performances will showcase the scholarship and creative work of more than 600 GVSU students in a variety of disciplines, including the physical sciences, social sciences, math and engineering, dance, and more.

Water: Human Right or Commodity?
Water: Human Right or Commodity?
Enjoy art that addresses a deeper issue, now through June 21 at the Richard M. DeVos Center. This exhibition explores human rights in a world of increasingly limited natural resources; specifically, access to clean water. A result of the research and collaborations arranged by two Grand Valley social work faculty members. This exhibition includes images and descriptions of the challenges faced in El Salvador and Flint, Michigan.

The GVSU Football Program invites you to participate in the 24th Annual Spring Classic and Cash Draw on April 13. These events will allow you an opportunity to preview the 2019 Laker Football Team and talk with the Head Football Coach, Matt Mitchell, plus the entire football staff at a post-game celebration.

GVSU Earns 60 All-Region Honors
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its All-Region honorees for the 2019 Indoor Track & Field season, per a release on February 26, and the Grand Valley men's and women's track & field teams brought home a combined 60 honors.

Club Sport Highlight: Swim & Dive Takes on the Midwest
The Grand Valley Swim & Dive Club has been extremely busy in the early months of 2019. They have had a record-setting 26 swimmers qualify for the 2019 FINIS College Club Swimming National Championships. The club is expected to make quite the showing at The Ohio State University during the weekend of March 29-31, 2019.

Less than a dozen other colleges in the nation have a mandatory co-operative education program. As a result, Laker engineers are in high demand with 100% of them employed upon graduation. Due to great community needs, we have outgrown our current engineering facilities.

GVSU Nursing Student
GVSU Receives $600,000 Grant to Fund Nursing Scholarships
Grand Valley State University's Kirkhof College of Nursing received a $600,000 grant to fund scholarships for students who are pursuing nursing as a career and have earned a bachelor's degree in another field. The grant is from the Helene Fuld Health Trust, the nation's largest private funder devoted exclusively to nursing students and nursing education. This gift is part of the Laker Effect campaign, which is transforming the lives of students and enhancing the West Michigan community. Learn more about the campaign at gvsu.edu/giving.
