The MAGIC Program hosted our 17th Annual Backpack Giveaway and Celebration on Saturday, August 1st, at Gateway High School. We gave out over 300 backpacks to the youth within our community! We extend our sincere gratitude to all our community partners, sponsors, and volunteers for their invaluable support in making this event a success. Thank you to all the community members who came out to receive backpacks; our event wouldn't be possible without your continued support.

The MAGIC Programs team extends a special thank you to all of our 2026 MAGIC Back-to-School Celebration and Backpack Giveaway sponsors, partners, vendors, and volunteers!
Thanks to your continued support, we distributed 2,100 backpacks and 106 bikes with helmets as well as provided valuable resources, services, and back-to-school support to youth and families throughout the Bayview-Hunters Point and Fillmore/Western Addition communities.

The MAGIC Programs hosted our Annual Youth Showcase on Wednesday, July 29th at USFs Fromm Hall. Our youth programs performed songs, dances, storytelling pieces and recited poetry. A big shout out to our emcee Kennedy, one of our Opportunities for All Summer Fellows! We would like to appreciate all the programs that participated; we couldn't be more proud of the hard work and spirit that you all poured into this event. We also would like to thank Barnzilla who was our featured artist for the event.

Open though September 9th at the Community Works in San Francisco, the exhibition centers the voices, creatvity, resilience, and leadership of young people through photography, artwork, and immersice installations. As part of the Foster Youth Museum's traveling exhitition series, it is bringing these powerful stories to communities across California. Admission is free.

NOTES: The Coalition for Community Safety and Justice (CCSJ) is a group of four Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) organization. Chinese for Affirmative Action, Chinese Progressive Association, New Breath Foundation and Community Youth Center San Francisco - formed to address the safety of the AAPI community against violence, racism, and xenophobia.

NOTES: CalKIDS is a new program from the State of California that provides eligible families with free money for college. California newborns can receive up to $175 and eligible California public school students can receive up to $1,500. CalKIDS was created to help families kickstart their college savings plan and increase access to higher education.

San Francisco opened a college savings account with $50 for every SFUSD student. You may have saved personal contributions and additional incentives awarded by K2C as well. NOTES: We are looking for students who are committed to indigent criminal defense. Students with a general interest in criminal law or who view being a prosecutor as a possible career choice should not apply. NOTES: At Sprouts Chef Training, we equip youth to rise from hardship through culinary training and job placement. Youth are paired with a chef mentor and case manager to develop the skills needed to secure and maintain a culinary job. Internships last a minimum of twelve hours a week and run from two to six months. Support will be provided to interns after the program has ended to ensure they succeed post-internship.
